So it is Malky

Recommended Posts

If it''s also true about Moody then how does it work. If we''re employing a technical director to help ensure continuity in playing the ''Norwich way'' but then the manager knows more about what that is than the technical director. Surely as we''ve taken the pairing together we will be playing the ''Cardiff way''.

I find it a bit odd, possibly because I don''t really know what it is he''s suppose to do. Is Moody genuinely the best person we could get for this role or is he just convenient? The obvious positive being he and Malky are happy working together, but at some point for the appointment to be successful there will be a split. If he follows Malky to his next job it sort of defeats the object of his appointment.

I''m personally very happy with this appointment.

I would put him in the similar mould as Lambert (not because he''s Scottish) in terms of his man management skills to get hunger and desire instilled into his players, whilst also ''putting his arm around a player'', which is also a key aspect of Lamberts managerial style.

Yes his play was more cautious but that was in the prem with a newly promoted side. We do need a solid defensive line but I think the balance of this with offering a genuine attacking threat is what separates Malky to Hughton. If Adams is his number 2 then clearly this will help in getting uptospeed with personnel in the football club but also in the 5 games Adams took charge of, you could see how to get a better balance of defensive, counter attack football. Also, judging by Whittaker''s comments, training under Hughton wasn''t intense enough.

We all need to get behind Malky and not let the defensive managerial style of hughton blinker our opinions on this style of football. Many teams will be looking to get one over us as a relegated prem team so we need to prepare our team shape, tactics etc accordingly and Malky is in my opinion the best man for the job.
If it is Mackay then you have to look at what the board have decided not to do.They have rejected the simple and sentimental and cheap but potentially disastrous choice of Adams. They have rejected the notion of Zola - a famous figure with a highly questionable track record who would be the darling of Fleet Street for a while. They have rejected the potentially disastrous choice of Lennon - someone else with a big Fleet Street name but as yet no experience of runing a club through a long English league season. They have rejected the sexy notion of someone from overseas with no experience of English football.Instead they have picked the candidate whose record in the Championship - success with two clubs and no failures - puts him in practical terms if not head and shoulders then certainly a whole head above the alternatives. And someone whose short time at Cardiff in the Premier League shows he is a strong character well able to fight his corner over money and transfers. He may have played for us but there is nothing "little Norwich" about him or the choice.
Well said that man.I reckon big Malky is the right choice to get us back first time into the Premier League. With Hoddle as Director of Football, it''s the best possible option we had available.

Yeah, too right Waveney.   Aldi is much more popular, cheaper and suits most normal people much better than Harrods ever could.

Lamberts managerial record is hardly better than Malkys overall. Yes he has kept villa in prem league but only just and he hasn''t really kicked on from his days at Norwich, unlike dome like Rodgers for example.

I was only drawing on an aspect of lambert style which Malky also possesses. At the end of the day, it''s a far more solid appointment to be than someone like Sherwood who is a volatile character, Zola never experienced promotion and dubious managerial record and Lennon is untested.

Not sure Harrods would be impressed at being compared to a manager who''s scraped survival in the Prem for the last 2 seasons.

On balance I''d be happy to appoint Malky. An ambitious young manager who knows how to get promoted.

As for "not having an attacking bone in his body.... he played at CB so what exactly would you expect? He always scored a few goals every season from set pieces eg the key goal in the playoff semi vs Wolves.

One thing is for certain he is way way better than Hughton.

That is far from proven. If we get Malky, we will have a very similar style to Hughton. What he may offer that seems better is a bit more freedom to attack. However, if he keeps Snodgrass and Johnson as main players, we will still lose the ball too much and look too slow in attack.

A change of manager has to mean changes in players too. If we keep the same basic squad, we will have similar problems next season to this - whoever is manager.

I have reconsidered my opinion regarding Hughton and also your comments over the last two seasons and - nope my opinion is that Malky is a far better manager than Hughton will ever be.

I could give you a list to back up my opinion but suffice to highlight Malky''s strengths compared to the ''nice man'' - man-management skills, stronger

character, investigate what players are now saying about Hughton. Frankly the latter was a disaster.

Your points regarding players etc may be valid but I don''t think Malky would allow the dross served up for the last two seasons

If it is Malky then we will all back him I''m sure

But Purple, if the board are so God like and pure why did they even consider Zola Lennon Adams or did they just go straight to Malky.

That might be the answer - they didnt consider anyone other than Malky and have had to wait to see if Malky got offered a Premier club.

I''m happy with Malky if indeed he becomes our manager but my choice would have been Lennon

Can anyone clarify who Moody was responsible for signing last summer? The players bought prior to last season weren''t too bad, but last summer''s transfers were a car-crash for Cardiff. Obviously Moody was sacked in the off-season, can anyone clarify when, and if he was responsible for the signing of say, gary Medel, or Cornelius, or whether it was that random kid who bought them in?

He''s head and shoulders above any of the other candidates if we couldn''t tempt Lennon or Rosler. He got Cardiff promoted with a poorer team than we currently have and was looking to just about keep them there despite the club making some horrible investments.

I''m extremely happy with this especially after the rumors of Sherwood

We are, after all, just about within the "within a week".Mackay seems to me clearly the best option of those I have seen mooted. And "best" in this case includes the factor of "least potentially disastrous". Lennon might be the next Scottish managerial genius. Or someone totally out of their depth beyond his present comfort zone. I just do not think we can afford to take a risk on someone who might squander what is a good chance to get straight back up.

Why is there so much store on this ''one week'' thing?

WHat happens if it doesn''t happen within then,? McNally to get a stoning? I am 100% sure that, at the time, plans were in place for a decision in that timeframe, but sometimes in life, it has a habit of throwing something completely left field which needs addressing before you can go to the next stage.

I would be confident, that there will be a press conference tomorrow, but if it doesn''t happen, ce la vie, and I will maintain my complete trust in the Board, to make the right decision, at the right time.

Moody then went to Crystal Palace. Most Palace fans would be pleased with what they managed to do in January. Just saying...

Malky has always been the most logical and likely appointment, but lets not jump the gun here. Any one can say the board are hoping to appoint Malky next week, but using the word hoping is an easy get out clause for the journalist.

Sports journalists are alot at their specialist subject of stating the bleeding obvious. If it happens '';they told you first'', if it doesnt then they just say we were hoping to make the appointment but something happened to stop it.

Once jornalists start saying we will do this or we will do that, and then it happens, thats when i will start getting excited.

And just because the odds on malky have shortend alot means nothing, just like they meant nothing when the odds on lennon shortened, or the odds on us signing jordn rhodes last year shortened so much they stopped taking bets.

Thanks mate.
So he was responsible for both Medel and Cornelius. Hmmmm. Looks like he got them right in the Champs though to be fair.
If you don''t mind me asking, whats your issue with the Cornelius and Medel signings? The prices? I mean, Medel has been awesome for Cardiff throughout his relatively short career at the club. His agressive, ''take no prisoners'' attitude has been a crucial aspect in allowing them to play a slighter, more technical player in a deep midfield role and to give their attacking midfielder the freedom to act pretty much as he likes.
Cornelius was a miss, no doubt, but it seemed a logical signing at the time. A 20 year old Danish international who had recently finished top scorer in Denmark''s league? I wouldn''t have been disappointed with that had we made that signing instead of RVW at the beginning of the season. Obviously his time at Cardiff was a disaster due to injuries, a heavy price tag increasing expectation and an owner who clearly regretted sanctioning that deal but that doesn''t mean the signing didn''t make sense.
Good posts PC, I think you''ve made a solid case.
I forgot to include Sherwood, but I would, like Lennon, categorise him as unproven as a manager and so too much of a risk. My suspicion is Sherwood could have the makings of a decent manager. But only a suspicion. Not enough. As an aside there are some weird alliances on this board at the moment, with posters usually poles apart finding themselves in agreement. But it won''t last, thank goodness!
