Would you choose to play for a manager who commands respect for what they''ve achieved in the game over 15 years ?

You will get some players go where the money is, but you do get players go where they feel they will thrive best and develop and taken under the wing of an experienced manager. Adams has no track record to speak of, so for many players it would be a step into the unknown.I don''t want it to become a McCarthy Vs Adams argument
Of course you don''t because on that basis your argument falls flat as a pancake

Millwall - His disastrous loan signings of the grossly underachieving Russian internationals Sergei Yuran and Vassili Kulkov from Spartak Moscow, who each received a £150,000 signing-on fee and were being paid five times the wage of the rest of the first team, would later be cited as one of the main reasons Millwall were eventually relegated

Ireland - Criticism of McCarthy in the media became increasingly intense after a poor start to Ireland''s qualifying campaign for Euro 2004. In particular, his persistence with several players and tactics that some perceived to be inadequate did him damage

Sunderland - After a poor season and with the club 16 points from safety with only 10 games remaining, he was dismissed.

Wolves -  it seemed inevitable when McCarthy was sacked as Wolves manager on 13 February 2012] after a run of poor results, including a 5–1 home defeat to local rivals West Bromwich Albion

Ipswich - McCarthy''s first full season in charge of Ipswich ensured 9th place

How could Adams compete with that 15 year track record of success?
Are you seriously questioning McCarthy''s managerial record? He took the Republic of Ireland to the World Cup last 16!He took Sunderland and Wolves up and kept them in the top flight for several years - which you''ve elected to leave out in your ''assessment'' of his reigns at both clubs.Ipswich - Again you neglected to add he''d taken the club from the foot of the table and seemingly dead and buried to a top half finish in 2012/13 - but anything to suit your agenda!

Yes we may not have a significant budget anymore, but to say that McCarthy is not a good manager (particularly at second tier level) is Canary-tinted spectacles stuff.

Contacts can only get you so far. Look at some of the ex Man Utd players who turn to management they manage to get a few loanees from Utd but the majority of those that have have failed. Some players will follow managers but most will ask former players at the club that they know as most share the same agents. If we get our Ruddy, Snoddy, Redmond, Hooper, Howson and Olsson to stay they show other potential players we mean business and that Neil Adams is a man to work with and they will be happy to join. Personally I wouldn''t care who the manager was if I was looking to join a club it would be the other players I would be playing with week in week out and how ambitious the club are.

I''m mildly amused at the binners desperately clutching at straws. McCarthy''s record is mediocre at best. Yes he kept Wolves up, but did it playing appalling football for the most part.
Regardless of records, when a player signs for a club, it''s the same as any of us going for a job, you meet the man/woman and make a judgement on what it would be like to work under them, do you buy into their ethos etc. Yes McCarthy''s record is infinitely longer, but he comes across as a miserable tw@ whereas Adams comes across as passionate, driven etc. I know which I would rather work for, regardless of CV. When you factor everything else into the equation (including what the city they''ll be living in is like) then it''s a no-brainer. That''s even if the scum were fishing in the pool of players we''ll be looking at (which they won''t be despite having that arms-dealing ticket tout as their "sugar daddy").
