Financial element of John Ruddy and the England team

Recommended Posts

Was just going through some World Cup related stuff and stumbled across this, what''s interesting is it mentions about money being paid to domestic clubs of which players represent! Did we miss out on a small slice of pie here with John Ruddy?

-------

The total prize money on offer for the tournament was confirmed by FIFA as US$576 million (including payments of US$70 million to domestic clubs), a 37 percent increase from the amount allocated in the 2010 tournament.[19] Before the tournament, each of the 32 entrants will receive US$1.5 million for preparation costs. Once at the tournament, the prize money will be distributed as follows:

US$8 million – To each team eliminated at the group stage (16 teams)

US$9 million – To each team eliminated in the round of 16 (8 teams)

US$14 million – To each team eliminated in the quarter-finals (4 teams)

US$20 million – Fourth placed team

US$22 million – Third placed team

US$25 million – Runner up

US$35 million – Winner

As with the previous World Cup, FIFA will make payments to the domestic clubs of the players representing their national teams at the tournament. This will see a total of US$70 million paid to domestic clubs.

Interesting stuff. The 70million paid to domestic clubs would surely be better off going to grassroots level of the players teams national association?

Why do the world''s top teams need more money given to them?

That''s interesting, I always thought the prize money went to the countries FA to do with what they liked.

Just to add, it would work out to over 2million per country - surely having that in grassroots level is better than giving Man City less than a weeks of Toures wage

Mind you, had Ruddy gone to the World Cup our share would probably have been spent spent on new table cloths for Delia''s restaurant!
