Since 1980 27 Posted April 28, 2014 I reckon the programmer was Paul Lambert or Gary Lineker. On a serious note I wonder how many times a side of our calibre has ended up with their last four games against top 6 sides?
Mr Brownstone 0 Posted April 28, 2014 You could say we were lucky with the fixtures as we had all our winnable games earlier in the season giving us the opportunity to get points on the board and be well clear of the relegation zone come the final 4 games. Jacko 0 Posted April 28, 2014 At the end of the day every team plays the same 38 matches just in different combinations. We had an excellent chance to get early points on the board and we squandered it leaving us in the relegation zone in November after we got slaughtered 7-0 by Man City. We''ve been fighting to keep our heads above water ever since and ultimately it has proved to be too much.
Rufus Smalls 0 Posted April 28, 2014 Compare the Lambert and Hughton (1st) season - both finished around the same area but under Lambert we were safe and comfortable for a long time and under Hughton we were in grave danger with a few games to go but pulled away at the last minute. There''s no doubt, however, that the Lambert season was ''better'', as we got the points on the board to survive earlier and that gave us a more comfortable and enjoyable finish. So, it *ought to be* beneficial to have a tough run in as theoretically the points should be in the bag before the killer run-in, thus allowing us a bit more breathing space and more chance of a comfortable season like Lambert''s.Whether this makes any difference is another matter. In practice, it''s all academic because it has spectacularly backfired this season and with a tough finish there''s not a get-out-of-jail card. At the end of the day, everyone has to get points from their 38 games and we''re not going to get enough points to stay up, so questions about a tough run in and the fixture computer are all a little theoretical - we haven''t won enough games. Since 1980 27 Posted April 28, 2014 If we''d won the same amount of agmes against the right opponents all would be different.
