The Great Mass Debater

Everyone has their price

Recommended Posts

So it seems that we stand to lose a number of squad members. We have to be resigned to losing players if they want to leave, but what price would you consider to be fair for each of our squad members? Im not asking how much do you think they are worth, just, if you learned that one of them had been sold tomorrow, what price would you accept and wouldnt make you choke on your coco pops?

1. John Ruddy                - 7m

2. Russell Martin            - 4.5m

5. Sebastien Bassong      - 5m

6. Michael Turner            - 2m

7. Robert Snodgrass        - 7.5m (though worth remembering Leeds wanted 8.5m when we first tried to sign him having never played PL football)

10. Leroy Fer                 - 8.5m

Worth remembering that nobody paid that for him.

Bit like saying we want £25m for Bradley Johnson.

Id caution against making the mistake of concluding that because we''ve had a sh*t season, we have sh*t players. We need to make sure we dont fall into the trap of undervaluing our players. When a car is dirty, it needs some polishing and it will be as good as new. The quality remains underneath the cr*ppy appearence

The key is that we don''t need to sell, but we may do if we don''t come straight back up next summer. For some, it''ll be a gamble of if we stick or twist. This year Ruddy could command a £8m fee but next year perhaps only half that. Same for a few players.

I wouldn''t bother sell too many, i''m not sure who we''d be able to replace them with and I think we''ll have money to spend if needed without selling players. I don''t see how the extra money would benefit us next season really.

Two players stick in my mind when we were last relegated. Green and Ashton. I thought we got totally ripped off with Greeno, think the Ashton fee was acceptable, even though I do believe he would have become the next Alan Shearer if not for his injury. Think we would be better not allowing anyone to leave in the summer and then flog them off in January if we''re not looking like challenging - of course, we all know prices are inflated in January so good business for us, plus after 6 months, people would have forgotten the lacklustre performances from a number.

Dont do a gold bullion or Royal Mail and sell at the lowest ebb
