Anyone think we will struggle next year?

Recommended Posts

The stench of relegation has been around for a long time in my view. Many have posted about the sheer negligence and lack of action to address our shortcomings....so many of which have been so clearly seen by us the paying fans. It feels we are in some kind of desperate decline or a kind if malaise. There is hardly one player I back to get us out next year...maybe Tettey? But Ruddy, Snodgrass, Fer, Hooper will all surely go. Pilkington, Hoolahan, Becchio and Guttierrez will be gone. Elmander too. So its a virtual complete rebuild with a completely new management team! I think we would be lucky to get mid-table. Sorry in advance on the night we are confirmed as down. Hopefully someone can persuade me otherwise....

I don''t think as many as you think will leave. We are in much better shape than last time and will probably have learnt our lesson from them too. Maybe after a couple more poop seasons we could be relegated again, but I find it hard to believe next season.

We will struggle to get promoted like the vast majority of relegated teams mainly because (unlike last time we were in the Championship) we are in a habit of performing to a standard less than the sum of our parts, not scoring goals and being regularly defeated.

There is a good reason why Reading, QPR and Wigan finished outside the top 2 this season and Bolton, Blackburn and Blackpool didn''t even make the playoffs.

If we get a manager and backroom team in quick followed by the transfers in and out ready for a decent pre season then can''t see why we should. The next moves by the board and speed of them will be crucial.

I too do wonder if we''ll struggle. Anyone who thinks we''ll easily destroy everyone else in the Championship and return at the first time of asking, needs only to look back at the 2005/06 season. The Championship is the hardest league to get out of and there are multiple weeks where we''ll be playing 2 games per week. We need a bigger, more robust and workman-like squad to cope with injuries and the more physical teams who will specialise in disrupting our flow of play. Looking back at the team we got promoted with, we''re a lot of players short of that. Something I think we''ll be lucky to get anywhere near to in just one summer transfer window. Please prove me wrong though!

we are going to lose a massive chunk of what we consider our first choice eleven, we will then struggle because we have still yet to appoint a full time manager who should have been planning for next season 6 weeks ago, we will then struggle because we have to not only rebuild but actually get the new team used to playing together

we will do well to finish 12th

fcked up big time

It seems to be their favourite past-time. The only thing that changes is the division that they make the mistakes in.Oh how I yearn for them to make a new and unexpected mistake. I fear though that they will stay true to form and we will see a (take your pick) Peter Grant/Brian Hamilton/Bryan Gunn/Chris Hughton/Glen Roeder-esque appointment. This will be closely followed by a fire-sale of any player that we get a phone call for and they will be replaced by Jason Jarrett and Mark Fotheringham. [:$]

If you think back over the last 10 seasons you will understand why most people in the football world seem to view them as successful owners.

I can''t think of any particular reason why we''ll struggle, but that doesn''t mean we''ll be top, either. Of last season''s relegated sides, two got to the play-offs and one narrowly missed out, perhaps similar will happen this time - and it will surely be a better season for us in terms of entertainment if it does.

Players who want to leave are welcome to go, we need guys who are up to it; the leavers will be replaced. There''s little point in reeling off a list of names (in a relegated side) and saying how poorly we''ll do without them - we didn''t exactly do particularly well with them, did we?! It is up to the manager to use our relative wealth over the other Champs sides to get decent guys in who will do the job,

Over the season I really dont expect us to struggle. Sure there could always be a bit of a roller coaster start as the new squad settles and you get those strange early season results. But, over a season in a league where you can lose a crazy number of games (12-15) yet still claim a play-off spot, I am very confident considering the club''s resources and stability that we will at the very least get a play-off spot.............a top Management appointment would help of course.

It''s impossible to say at the moment, we have no idea who will form our management team and who will be in the squad.

The only thing we can be sure of is there will be big crowds at FCR and good away support for the team.

I don''t doubt with the money we have and the squad or potential squad we put together we will enough quality compared to our rivals, the big thing we will have to establish is the team spirt. That is worth so much and in he League where we now find ourselves is key.

I would cry if we assembled a quality squad that had no fight, cos believe me we are really going to need it.

Leaders and motivation will be the biggest things next season

If we get it right with the new manager we can kick on as we did following our relegation to league 1. I am very very optimistic provided we get a good experienced championship manager. If we keep adams then we will lose the summer transfer window and i could see us having another change before christmas. Time to be focused and decisive no time to dwell on the past albeit an inquest is needed to ensure we do not make the same mistake again

Far, far, far, far, far to the nth degree early to tell how we will do in the championship. depending on who we lose and the manager we get in we still have views of both Polar-Ends of next seasons spectrum. we seriously need to give it some time before we start predicting how we will play next season and how well/poor we will do. Every possibility we go straight back up, every possibility we face a double relegation.

Spot on. Decisions over the next few weeks and months will define the clubs future for the a long long time.

There is no reason whatever why we should struggle next season.By Champ standards we are well-heeled, have a fan base that gets sell-out crowds, the nucleus of a good squad and plenty of bright youngsters coming through. To name but four positives. The only thing we are lacking is a management team who has the desire and capability to get the best out of the undoubted potential this squad has. That, and to recognise where the glaring gaps are and recruit accordingly. As fans we can only hope that the board are as savvy as they claim and not about to make the same mistakes all over again. We cannot overstress the importance of the appointments that the board are going to have to make over the next few days.

One of the positives to come from this (there are few and far between) is that we can see if many claims that our Youth FA Cup holders could hold their own in the championship. I''m excited to see how/if Loza, the Murphy twins, and depending on the Ruddy situation, Rudd, does in the championship.

Good article on this in todays EDP.

In last ten years only 26% of clubs bounce straight back.

50% have still not returned in those 10 years.

An average of 4 years to return to top flight.

Interestingly City are the only club in that time whose attendances increased after relegation.

Average income dropped by 20 million

oh, and there''s a 30% chance of dropping into League 1 !!!

We will be one of the few teams ever to go down without being in massive financial difficulties.  We don''t NEED the parachute payments next season at least. We have a decent squad of players who will not interest premier league clubs that much, but who with a bit of weeding out and a few additions is more than good enough for the championship. The real issue is the board act NOW on the manager front.  An appointment needs to have been discussed for weeks and contact made.  That person needs to be in position to start the recruitment process as soon as Sunday is over. It''s obvious Malky and Lennon have been chatted to, so it seems they are working behind the scenes, so fingers crossed.
Where do you see the leadership coming from Reggie?
Exactly my point, Jenks. One of the qualities we should be looking for in our new manager should be leadership...something sadly lacking in the previous regime.. And, with it, his ability to demand leadership on the field. That''s what I meant by ''glaring omissions'' . It''s been obvious to all and sundry that it''s something we''ve lacked on the pitch during this fiasco of a season. So, the new man, if he cannot see leaders in the squad he inherits, should make it a priority in his recruitment campaign.

I think that a top ten finish next season should be our lowest target - ie we should not be too disappointed to finish where "Our Friends to the South" have.

This may not be a popular view, but with the work to be done - new management team and a different team on the field - I doubt whether we can turn it around in one season, but a decent season next season laying the foundations for a good push the following year would do me.

After appointing the right manager we need to find someone who has to wear baggy shorts due to the size of his testicles to give us some leadership on the pitch.

It has been missing Reggie, the difficulty is it is not something you can pick off the shelf. I think our success or failure next season will to a large part depend on this.

Totally agree, and we have no idea of the players that will be available to him either. I struggle to understand the negative mentality of a lot of posters on here, which is why I post much less than before.
