Was at the dinner last night and I can exclusively reveal that the managerial position became no clearer than it was when I turned up.

What I can say is that there was nothing said last night to suggest that it wouldn''t be Adams (if that makes sense?)

Bowkett - effectively blamed Hughton I thought and was hugely critical of the style of play. The next manager will be /has been told that he has to play in the "Norwich Way" , and will have to work in the framework of a Director of Football, I might be wrong but I thought that might rule out a few of the more experienced managers - I cant imagine Big Sam coming in and putting up with that ?

Over the evening the short list became a "very short list" (I think McNally said this) - again possibly suggesting Adams? Adams was cheered when mentioned and was "blameless" - I think Bowkett said that the job he was given was "impossible"

Some other snippets, Bradley isn''t leaving, Snoddy swerved the question, Wes isn''t going to Villa, and the players were well drilled and very polite. Olsson was brilliant and wants to stay, and loved working under Allardyce. RVW was great I thought, all things considered.

and , as has been mentioned, Iwan''s beard was outstanding!

"The Norwich Way" - hmm.     Surely this is just pining for old times?    We want success - and that means success in whatever style is necessary. We would all like to see attacking football - but unless we want to be a proverbial little club yo-yo-ing backwards and forwards - we have to do more than just be plucky little Norwich, having a go and than dropping back.

The Hughton project was one designed to get us out of that yo-yo style club and on up to a more established club at the top level. It blatantly didn''t work - but harping on about the "Norwich Way" may sound good - but it is meaningless in the modern world of football.   We need success at the top level and that is more important than harping back to some mythical "Norwich Way".    Success on the pitch - even Ron Saunders style if necessary - is much more important.

I''d be underwhelmed if Adams got the job. Very underwhelmed. Typical fans at award dinners getting caught up in moment and pushing Neil for the job. He shouldn''t get the job. He shouldn''t be anywhere near the job. I like him, but come on!

LDC

Surely Southampton and Swansea have shown that newly-promoted teams don''t have to adopt the approach CH took - you can play attractive football and survive.

I''d rather follow that template than the absolute pragmatism you seem to believe is a prerequisite.

Yes I''m not sure that there is a "Norwich Way", as you say the football under various managers is naturally different. I think it was more Anti Hughton Rhetoric - say in short that we didn''t score enough goals , or look for a win enough times.

Bowketts speech was well crafted and read word for word.

Apparently the board sat and contemplated change at Christmas, but decided not to, based on two things. 1. We had a habit of winning home games, and there were enough home games left to keep us up, and , secondly , which Delia said, the "who" factor. Who could they go and get that would guarantee survival?

The good news from last night''s dinner was:

We do not have to sell any players

We are still in a sound financial position

The new manager will be announced in the next few days

Most players give the impression they are happy to stay

New players will be brought in

Well if the new man has to play the Norwich way it wont be Adams as his teams played the Hughton way better than Hughton himself .Will we make another huge managerial mistake and appoint the radio presenter ? surely not but given our history you have to think its possible .

One again LDC your criteria of success might well be different if you had to sit through it every week.

For me it is not acceptable to get and stay in the premier league playing as we did last year and had the Hughton project been considered a success and given longer I would not have continued to renew my season tickets.

We scored by far the fewest goals in the league and frankly never looked like scoring more.

We must never lose sight of the fact we go to football to passionately follow our team but we demand something in return: Football

If all it becomes long term is a money making exercise then there really is no point.

That''s more of a criticism of the Premier League than of Norwich isn''t it? The financial rewards of staying in that division are massively bloated, so clubs will naturally do whatever they think is most likely to get them to 17th or above.

If you sacrifice style for results, and then the results don''t come, obviously you''re not doing it right, but the intention is understandable.

I was also at the dinner last night and I thought there were more positives than negatives coming out of it. I didn''t get the impression at all that Neil Adams was nailed on for the role and don''t know why anyone got that impression. I was encouraged by Bowkett''s speech and the seriousness of it. Saying everyone had made mistakes and taking responsibility for them. Also, the passion and hurt from everyone was very apparent. Ruddy isn''t leaving, Snodgrass maybe, wasn''t 100% convinced by him saying he was staying, basically leaving it up to the club. One comment that Bowkett did make was that we got the signings wrong in key areas especially in the forward department which caused Hooper to give a shocked and rather "Who me" type of face! I was also pleased that the emphasis was based on the "Norwich Way" of passing and forward thinking football. To criticise Neil Adams for apprently not playing this style is unfair. He had 5 games, 4 against teams that usually beat us barring the odd upset and one against Fulham where we absolutely battered them for 90 minutes. What does everyone expect him to have done, get 15 points!? He did what he did with the players we have. The Chelsea game was a prime example, yes we defended but is it not true that if we approached the game in a more open attacking manner, they would have picked us off just as they did at the home game!? I firmly believe that it won''t be Adams as manager next season, it''s just the feeling I got, but he will stil be involved in the set-up. Whether he wants that or not is upto him. Most of the players alluded to the same thing Russell Martin did last week in that the team lost it''s identity. Ruddy said that everyone was saying that this is the best squad that''s ever been assembled at Norwich and that maybe the players believed the hype and got complacent. Also, most of the squad that I spoke to said that Hughton was a great guy, but too nice and the coaches didn''t have the authority that they maybe should have had.

Overall, it was all positive despite the undertone of relegation and I think maybe this step back could prove to be a catalyst to a huge step forward.

Even sitting through it week after week, you can have a longer term view and accept poor teamwork/performances if they look as if they may lead on to something better in the long run.  But even from afar - and I have been to nine games this season too - it has been so frustrating this  seeing the team perform well one week then poorly the next.  People had a downer on the manager - and for some people they only focus on the down side - but there were also good things going on too, from time to time. Not enough, I grant you and the lack of goals has been painful - but  we were one result from achieving our immediate goal - staying up.  If we had achieved that it would have been a stepping stone to next season and further squad improvements - and perhaps seeing more of what we saw in the better performances this season, allied to a few more goals.

I think watching Norwich over the last 2 yrs has been boring, would rather us lose 4-0 going for it than losing 1-0 hoping for a draw, I,m afraid Adams blew it against Chelsea, he went for the hope of a draw when we needed a win, even after 70mins he didn''t go for it, He didn''t do anything against Man U when we needed a draw. Fulham fair enough we played well and didn''t get anything. Against Arsenal we had Elmander up front when he will be off and RVW & Hooper nowhere.bring someone new in.
