If someone managing in Australia got the job I don''t think he would last long, on the basis of the strength of the clubs there. I reckon the champions of their 1st tier are no stronger than the champions of our 4th tier, and we saw what happened to goalie Theo didn''t we - after his debut he never played for us again, only made the squad once more

Went to watch a league when I was out in oz a couple of years ago. By far the worst game of football I have ever had the misfortune of watching, have seen better football on show watching Lowestoft. Awful, cheap and extremely risky appointment were it to happen and would derail any chance we have of coming back up immediately.

I remember him, pretty woeful defender (but obviously has no bearing on him as a manager) Strange choice if true, very risky, even better if it comes off

Tony Popovic as in the ex Palace defender?  Scorer of one of the most outrageous own goals in Premier League history?

He''s got a half decent reputation here but if he gets the job I will be ashamed to call myself a Norwich supporter.

I don''t watch the A-League purely because of the fact it is extremely boring and of poor footballing quality.

Technically it''s better than say league 2 but it''s a much slower pace.

Surely we can do way better than Tony Popovic!

This is one of the reasons I don''t purchase newpapers anymore, they seem to be able to post any old rubbish, most of which I can get for free.

Why all the guessing. It''s nailed on to be Malky. Saw him in Morrisons the other day (or so a Steward told me).

It could well be his agent just getting his name out there. He probably has zero chance and knows it, but now he''s become more aware to the UK fan base and potential clubs in the future

I don''t for one minute think we would get anyone from Oz. If we were to get anyone from the A-League it would have to be Josep Gombau. He transformed the way Adelaide have played.

He''s very passionate too, knee slides along the touchline etc.

Hi guys, just popping in from Oz to say hi.

Just thought I’d share some info with you on Poppa.

He was the man behind getting Mile Jedinak to Crystal Palace when he was the assistant there.

He left Crystal Palace to take the job as the inaugural head coach of the new start up club, the Western Sydney Wanderers in May 2012. The Wanderers had no players on the books and the competition was due to start in October.

Poppa took the team he put together, which consisted of A-league cast offs along with some handy imports, to the top of the competition and they were premiers in their first season before they were beaten in the Grand Final (only in Australia).

In the second season they finished second and again were beaten in the grand final. They also won their group in the Asian Champions League and tonight play their second leg in a round of 16 game chasing a 3-1 deficit against the J-League champions of the last two years.

In Australia the squads are built under a salary cap to protect the finances of the clubs so to compete against some of the best teams in Japan, Korea and China, and win the group in the Asian Champions League, was a monumental effort from Poppa and the team he built.

In reality, you won’t get him because we’ve got him locked up for another two years and the club recently released his assistant to take up a similar role with the Socceroos, so they won’t let Poppa go anywhere.

And BTW Barossa, Gombau over Poppa? Please…..Adelaide finished third in 2012-13, under Gombau they finished sixth. They might have looked pretty, but they weren’t as effective as they should have been.

Good luck in your search and hope to see you back in the Premier League next year..

Surprised by the hostility of some of the comments, Popovic has done a very good job in Australia and is very highly regarded in England.

He certainly has more credibility and experience than Neil Adams - I doubt it is him that Norwich will appoint as he was standing on a touchline in Australia yesterday, not on a jet ready to be announced in a press conference in Norwich. Would be very happy if Norwich had looked at him, rather than just going to the tried and tested failures in the UK.
