Can't believe CP have better players

Recommended Posts

There is no doubt that their team on paper must be worse than our squad.

Their complete turn around since Pullis took over, just shows what a huge influence the manger has. Likewise it shows how bad our better squad did perform under CH.

Without a doubt Pullis should be manager of the season. Could he have done the same for us?

Classic example of what I was saying previously that there is a natural tendency for people not to focus on the big picture and understand probability - here by focusing on one club and one season - the fact that CP are the one club performing better than expected and not dramatically and that Stoke always finished where expected under Pulis actually shows the limited impact managers have - no doubt Pulis has got them outperforming but then so did PL and CH for a season and not happened since. Its just variation around the mean.

Yep the manager needs brings it all together and lead the team. In the last two seasons we have had a lot of change which I think has had a massive effect on the team spirit. The lads that got us here have all but gone and whilst team spirit will only get you so far it is invaluable. Maybe we have tried to change too quickly and buying young hungry players from lower league''s should have remained the priority. If Snodgrass had scored that penalty earlier in the season, if if ......Hindsight is great.

T: " Its just variation around the mean. "

No. It''s football you moron.

If you want to study statistics, go ahead. The rest of us are football fans and right now, we live in hope.

Nothing to do with the fact that Pulis has played round pegs in round holes since he arrived at Palace I suppose T ? Maybe if we got shot earlier of our clueless manager in or before the January window whoever came in might just have had your limited impact which is surely what we needed ?

It''s the best teams that stay up - not the better players. That means organisation, motivation and unity are key. Don''t sign overpriced mercenaries.

It also helps if you sign players who will fit in with the style of play you are wanting the team to adopt.

Abusing someone is just another common human tendency to deal with a reality that you don''t like or can''t understand. Its so painfully obvious - with the advent of football stats, wide television covering and large scouting networks then the quality of the players and their price has become more transparent. The best players generally have the best wages in a free market and therefore the team with the best budget have the best players - of course other factors come into play but generally the team with the biggest budget and therefore best players win - other factors are relatively minor. Probability and stats govern the world we live in and football is just part of that world. Being abusive or failing to understand that reality does not change reality.

Watching the Stoke/Cardiff game, it struck me how much more movement off the ball their players had compared to ours. Whether this is due to poor fitness, lack of imagination, motivation or self-confidence (or a combination thereof) I do not know. Adams could at least influence the last two factors. I just pray he has.

Palace has had some luck in their games.

Over the course of the season, it matters a lot when you play different teams.

For us now, playing Liverpool and Chelsea in the run in is a disaster, As well as playing Arsenal with all to play for.

Swansea playing Newcastle, who has been on the beach forever...lucky.

Palace beating Chelsea at home, on a day they were utterly terrible. Palace did not play very well, but still win 1-0 as Chelsea underperformed. No big teams seems to underperform against us. Why?

Because the decking players stand off them too much, allowing them time, allowing them to get the 1-0, and then control the game to a 3 or 4-0 win.

We don''t make our own luck.

And of course, failing to beat shorty teams around us, luike Swansea on their terrible run, it came to an end when we arrived (of course). Fulham, shit team, managed to win both at Carra and at the Cottage, from fewer shots on target than we had.

As for Palace, which this thread is about, no doubt Pulis has down well there. But wins breeds confidence, no matter how you get them. Palace´s ugly 1-0´s has won them a lot of points, and sooner or later that ugly luck transforms into self belief which lifts his sorry bunch even further.

All teams need a bit of luck.

When was the last time you remember Norwich won ugly? When dod we win from an own goal, a lucky deflected free kick, a 90min goal in an evenly balanced game?
