Recommended Posts

Is it because?1. Their team is so much stronger2. Their coaching staff is superior3. Their manager is so superior4. Bad and good luck5. Norwich City simply choke on the day6. Lack of confidence. 7. Life''s a bitch and then you die.8. All of the above.Any other reasons you may think of?

We do badly against counter attacking sides that have pace up front and are very vulnerable when we lose the ball in attacking positions. We have no pace in either centre back position or on the right side of defence or midfield. (Snoddy & Martin)Villa let us come onto them wait for us to give the ball away and run/pass passed our soft centre or right flank. Our defence is good when set, poor at covering when out of position. Its why we do badly against Liverpool too.

I think Lambert especially invigorates hos squad and tries that extra bit harder to get one over McNally.

Villa have been no better than us up until Sunday.

As has been mentioned, Villa have a lot of pace which makes them particularly dangerous on the counter attack.

Who do we have who can run a bit/has a turn of pace?

Howson, Tettey, Olsson and Redmond of the regulars (not that Redmond is great defensively).

Johnson is slow and particularly slow on the turn. Fer is quite one paced most of the time. Hoolahan is nippy over a very short distance but that''s it. Snodgrass, as we know from his attacking play, isn''t likely to get away from people just using pace.

The centrebacks don''t have much between them though Yobo has shown a little bit. Martin and Whittaker are just of average but are in trouble if someone goes past them/turns them.

There are Villa have players we have no answer to, & they know that. Players like Agbonlahor, Vlaar &, of course, Benteke are simply too good & too strong.

They don''t turn it on against other teams because they have the players to stop them - or the Villa players believe they do, which has the same effect.

We desperately need a character with the guts for a fight to captain the team. Bassong is not that man.

My view is that  all the reasons answered in the thread are valid points however why on earth should they have been  a surprise  on the day moreover why was the match a game of two halves when the factors were present in both halves.I have an overwhelming feeling that it all boils down to a game between two minds, tactics and countertactics, preplanning and player motivation.About Leadership:Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better. —Bill BradleyOne of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency. —Arnold GlasowA competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops, while on the contrary an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops. —John J PershingMy own definition of leadership is this: The capacity and the will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence. —General MontgomeryEffective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes. —Peter DruckerOutstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel.
