Time for Bassong To Be Dropped as Team Captain

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about Bassong being useless as Team Captain and since then he has justified that thread by the pathetic perfomances and now he has gone and done it again by conceding that penalty against stoke time for him to be dropped from the team never mind the team captain

Yobo looks ten times the player. Unreliable, and too mistake prone. Not captain material at all.

Sorry manager should have seen that by now. Hughton really has no clue RVW again when will he learn, Howson not starting!

Hughton is a clown and all those fans who want him will they still after we go down as we surely will!

Bassong is not team captain material at all, he has the concentration and discipline of an 8 year old dizzy on lemonade... talk about lacking a cool head he''s an utter disaster at times and I''m afraid this is the reason why is a relegation specialist.

What annoys me is he doesn''t look like he cares. Gives away a pen and doesn''t even protest...

I hope you read this Bassong nothing against you personally, but as a footballer and a Captain you don''t even deserve to wear the Club shirt, it is obvious there is no passion pride and personality when you wear the famous Canary Yellow

Time you was gone, your surplus Bassong baggage

Wouldn''t have been my choice for captain but nobody in the starting 11 looks a better bet.

Yobo becoming a little overrated.

Not even Ruddy? Was watching a stream and you could hear him shouting at his back 4 regularly - he''s the closest we''ve got to a leader on the pitch right now.

Typical second season syndrome for Bassong - has seemingly happened at all his other clubs as well (i.e. influential first season, nowhere near as good the second)

With Turner back soon I hope a back 4 of Martin/Whittaker - Yobo - Turner - Olsson becomes the standard for the last 9 games

Taking too much criticism. Probably have to learn the hard way we are better off with him than without.

Been saying he''s a lazy, disgraceful, care free, liability for weeks. And once again i''ve been proved correct. Problem is, as we all know, Bassong is one of Hughton''s golden boys, regardless of peformance or attitude he will remain a starter and captain for the rest of the season. It''s no coincidence the guy has been relegated multiple times. Looks like he''s about to add another one to the list.

Captain or not, he cost us the points last week, and has done so a second week running. Hughtons stuck by him (and other underperforming players one too many times)Needs to be dropped and earn his place again on merit. Bennett or Turner when he returns

At the start of the season, when we were discussing who our captain should be, I said that it shouldn''t be Bassong because I think that he would be one of the first to leave if we got relegated.

I didn''t see him laughing and joking at the end of the game but, if he did, he should be told to seriously sort himself out, be professional at least and show the club some respect.

I think we have been missing a real leader this season - someone to lead by example and push the team on.

Should we drop Bassong as captain? No. It would be irrational and cause unrest in the squad. Either drop him or tell him to start playing like we know he can.

Just because someone is not captain does not mean they can''t be a leader on the pitch. It''s definitely something we are lacking, but I think the amount of emphasis put on who wears the armband is OTT.

That said, Bassong can''t keep making major errors and still expect to keep his place. Would not be disappointed to see him given a bit of a rest.

He''s certainly not at his best, but I still think he''s managing the knee problem that saw him have surgery in the summer and miss pre-season.

For me he''s not what I''d look for personally when selecting a captain, but he''s out most experienced Premier League player so I can see why Hughton picked him.

I think accusations of laziness are completely unfair, Seb has always had a somewhat casual appearance on the pitch, but I don''t think you can question his commitment.

plenty of clubs would have looked to sell him after the ''replica gun'' fiasco which was a fine indicator of both his maturity and mentality, but instead clueless chris made him captain and rewarded him with a new contractprobably as much of an indicator that the manager is a dumb plank than anything else

GJP You say nobody in the starting line-up looks a better bet than Bassong for the armband. Is this is a typo - nobody should read anybody, surely?

Ref. your thread from earlier in the week (Team for Stoke) in which you argued that Bassong is not the liability people make him out to be. After Spurs, Villa and now today, what does he need do to convince you that he is a walking disaster?

And will Hughton get the message also.

To be fair, I said when captaincy options were discussed after Holt left that Bassong did not strike me as a captain. And that hasn''t changed. I just don''t see who looks a better option.

Similarly I don''t see a better option to replace him in the team. Unless we''re going for the overrated Ryan Bennett. Give it a couple of months and people would soon be calling for the return of Bassong.

I''ve got no problem saying that Bassong isn''t the greatest defender I''ve ever seen but I also believe he''s generally had a better season than is being made out and that there isn''t a genuinely better option to replace him with,
