Steve Clarke to be appointed by Tuesday

Recommended Posts

Not sure Clarke is the answer but is the best option of those regularly mentioned (lennon, malky,Adams etc)

Bielsa in the summer for me, or rosler as manager with UK experience. Germany could also give a decent lead

Ah - more selective stats,  the link takes you to the top managers since the start of march only - its a league table after only two games,  quite meaningless.

We don''t need Steve Clarke. Hughton isn''t doing that bad of a job. You can''t put the blame down to just him, its our players too. Steve Clarke would be an awful appointment. We should keep Hughton till end of season.

Morty is right - No one would come in and manage us JUST for 8 games. Managers coming in after christmas ALWAYS sign 6 - 18 month contracts, otherwise, why would you bother? Therefore, the only people who would possibly do the job would be a current staff member. However, I think the board would still see this a bigger risk than continuing with Hughton, sadly.

Bitter nn?   Not at all -  NW turned the club around at the start of the millenium.

I opened the link intrigued to find out what made him 9th best - to find the context was missing (ie 9th best in march after 2 games)   He has definitely had a good march and in the running for manager of the month.   All I have done is highlight the top managers based on the season and shown the context.

Worthy was a great manager for us - he did a fantastic job in getting us promoted after too many years in the doldrums.     He struggled in the prem (far from the first manager to do so, and let down by an over cautious board) and then failed to re-create the team spirit he created to secure promotion after some dodgy signings when we went down.     Many blame him for malky & Iwan leaving,  while I think he chose well (malky demanded first team football which he could not be promised,  Iwan was well past his best in the promotion season) He is an excellent manage manager and would do well at any club up to championship status - I am amazed he is only at York.   Perhaps that is his choice.

Most managers only have a shelf life at any club of 3-5 years before coming stale (assuming they last that long) - thats what happened with NW,  an agony prolonged by the board support.

Where is the evidence for the idea that Malky demanded first team football and was let go as a result ?

The story as I heard it at the time was that he was entitled to a big bonus in the summer so the club agreed a quick deal to sell him to Coventry having decided he wasn''t quick enough for the Prem (whether it was Worthy or tbe Board or a combination that made the decision I'';m not sure but either way it was made without reference to Malky).  Malky found this out while he was away with the Scotland team; when he came back he managed to secure a better deal with West Ham.

In hindsight we made two huge mistakes in 2004 - letting Malky go without making sure we had a better pair of CBs for the Prem season and starting the Prem season without a decent regular striker.  IMO if we had kept Malky we would probably have survived but there''s no way to know.

Anyway, back to Steve Clarke, anyone holding their breath ?
