Attributes of a potenial new manager

Recommended Posts

What skill set and behaviours would you want from a potential new manager. Ideally I would like the following

1) Ideally have competed in and won the Champions League

2) Having played abroad ideally Germany who are leading the way at the moment

3) Played International Football for their country

4) Ideally a British Manager

5) Someone who already has a connection with the club.

If this was the criteria for selecting the next Manager I think we would get the appointment spot on.

Any Thoughts? on this or suitable names that meet the criteria?

If it''s a premiership manager, I''d say it is essential to have a significantly better Prem record, in terms of points achieved, than Hughton over the period since Hughton joined us.

Now let me think... that would rule out the Villa manager if, purely hypothetically, people were wanting to imply he would be a good idea.  But I''m sure they aren''t, that would be utter nonsense anyway....

Next you''ll be telling us Santa isn''t real Jas.

Mind you, I suspect he actually follows a team down the A140 that are, yet again, failing to achieve anything in the Championship.  Can''t remember the name - they never get any coverage in the media...

Steve McManaman hits 3 of the 5 too doesnt he?

Paul Lambert meets all of the criteria, I can''t believe none of you have worked it out yet but I am a football genius so you are forgiven.

If you''d added:

6) speaks in an unintelligible Scots accent;

and;

7) likely to jump ship as soon as he gets a better offer

I reckon most people would have realised who you meant.

[/quote]Those are mostly irrelevant paper qualifications rather than attributes. Attributes matter more. Arrigo Sacchi, for example, didn''t play professional football at all, but was a fine manager.If we did make a change the one attribute I would most look for would be tactical nous. We will always have comparitively cheaply-assembled squad, so a manager who can wring the most out of it is vital.

Paul Lambert, you must remember him, he was the one who ran away when things started to get a bit tough, fortunately we found someone who cold tidy his mess up and stabilise things.
