Crossed for the first goal, not sure about the second as was a penalty. From what I''ve heard he''s making quite an impression.

What a performance as he comes on the world stage match shown on five continents. Man of the match two

assists and a final individual goal when he beat four players plus the keeper.

He has a quality as possessed by the leading Premier League strikers and not shown by any of present Norwich front men, that of speed.

The question is will he have to be of pensionable age before our defensive over cautious management team give him a regular opportunity in the senior eleven

Please post all discussion, reports and ratings here.

What a cracking game, Loza was sensational. Let''s hope he is our silver lining and pushes us on this much needed run of good results.

Southend fans forum...good to see!

Good point.

Pacey, young attacking players are never given a chance under this management. Never.

Jamar Loza scored one goal and set up two as Southend United moved into the League Two play-off spots with a comprehensive victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford United.

The hosts went ahead when Loza''s cross found Michael Timlin whose miskick was turned in by Will Atkinson.

Lee Barnard coolly slotted the second from the penalty spot after Loza was fouled by away goalkeeper Ryan Clarke.

And Loza showed superb strength to beat two men and add a classy late third.

The result takes Southend into seventh in the table, one place and three points behind Oxford.

Recall him and use him as an impact sub.

If we aren''t going to use Becchio then why not?

Should point out Jama was released by the previous manager and brought back after he''d left.

You should probably also point out that the reason he was resigned is because we suddenly had an Under 21 development squad, which didn''t exist before.

Yes there is a massive differece between League 2 and the Prem, but as I''ve said before, he''s worth a go, tonight he showed pace and tenacity, along with grit, fight and persistence, as was demonstrated by his goal, something we could do with up front possibly.

From Southend''s website;

Phil Brown will be celebrating a year in charge of Southend United on Tuesday morning with an even bigger smile on his face, after watching his side return to winning ways, beating Oxford United 3-0 on Monday night.

Will Atkinson scored to opening the scoring in the ninth minute, before Lee Barnard slotted home from the penalty spot to grab his first goal since returning to the club on loan from Southampton.

Oxford’s goalkeeper Ryan Clarke made a string of second-half saves to keep the score at 2-0, but Jamar Loza got a stunning, and deserved goal on his home debut to make it 3-0 and complete the convincing win.

Phil Brown handed Loza his first start since joining on loan, in place of Freddy Eastwood. Loza line up in attack, alongside Lee Barnard, with Michael Timlin out on the left of midfield and Will Atkinson centrally.

Loza was immediately in to the action and after closing down Sam Long and winning the ball back, his touch was jus too heavy and allowed Ryan Clarke to smother the loose ball.

The young striker was at the heart of all things good, and it was he who played a telling part in Blues opening the scoring.

His cross found Michael Timlin, but the midfielder’s touch was heavy. Luckily for Blues it fell for Atkinson, who side footed past Clarke.

Loza was again involved as Blues doubled their lead. He got on the end of Jake Wright’s backpass and was brought down in the area by Clarke.

Barnard stepped up to send Clarke the wrong way and grab his first Southend United goal since returning to the club.

There was a real spring in the step of every Blues player, and Timlin went close to making it 3-0. The midfielder saw his half-volley from 20-yards well saved by Clarke.

Oxford had rarely threatened, but should’ve pulled one back in the 27th minute. David Hunt’s corner found James Constable unmarked at the back post, but the striker volleyed wildly over the bar.

After playing a big part in the first two goals, Loza almost grabbed a goal of his own. The striker turned excellently inside the area to open up the space, but Clarke got down well to smother his shot.

The first opening of the second-half went the way of Oxford, but Constable could only chest inches wide from Hunt’s long throw.

Blues raced up the other end and went just as close, but Hurst’s drive went just over the crossbar.

Hurst went even closer ten or so minutes later, but his curling effort, after beating Hunt superbly, was tipped over by Clarke.

Oxford’s stopper made an even better save from the resulting corner, as he somehow kept out John Egan’s header from Hurst’s ball in.

Clarke then kept out Leonard’s deflected strike with the air of the crossbar as Blues searched for a third goal.

That came when Loza went on a solo run, beating two defenders with sheer persistence before calming clipping the ball over Clarke.

It was a fully deserved goal for the young striker, and it rounded off a terrific night for Blues as they ended their winless run.

I hope some day soon we have a youth product again who will make it - and will actually see them given the chance to do so at Carrow Road.

I''m sick of seeing things like, "Oh you can''t throw them in to the Premier League" and "If we were in the Championship or League One, they might get a game, but not in the Premier League"

I fully agree with them gaining experience elsewhere, but there must come a time when we need to give these guys a go in our own first team. For example, Loza is 19 - yes it''s young, but other Premier League clubs don''t seem to hesitate in giving their younger players first team game time (look at Southampton) And besides, I don''t see 19 as that young in football anymore. The more Premier League game time you give them, the better they can acclimatise to it.

Yes there''s a chance they could be another Ryan Jarvis or Danny Crow, but I don''t see a problem in giving them 10-15 minutes here and there in our first team. We throw cash at expensive overseas flops (RVW) when we could have a goalscoring solution on our very own doorstep.

our strikers cannot score why haven''t we given this boy a chance ?? youngster always play for other teams I would rather see this boy play than a striker who hasn''t scored since 1st game of season that is how you unearth diamonds !

norfolkngood,

I agree wholeheartedly, if he is good enough then he will very soon work it out and become a regular 1st Teamer, at age 19 he is certainly old enough.

What I particularly like about this lad is that he doesn''t give up and throw himself on the floor when challenged, his goal is testimony to that and even after the pen, he immediately jumped up and ran after the ball, there was no rolling about, just shows what can be done. Whether this will change once he mixes with Prem players, who knows but for now it shows what can be done with determination and without play acting.

Because we''re not desperate and chucking in an unproven young player with only limited experience of first team football at a lower level would make you look a bit desperate. It''d send out the wrong message.

Fulham have been playing 19 year old Cauley Woodrow recently - because they''re desperate.

We tried to rely on Cody McDonald to keep us up in the Championship - because we were desperate.

No doubt Loza impressed last night but getting first team experience while out on loan is definitely the way for him for at least this season and next.

Being an Oxford lad I found myself cheering for Southend, wanted to see Loza do well, and the boy done great.

At 19 he really is a diamond and along with the Murphy lads and Redmond, what an option of pace to introduce next season. I''m not saying they should be regulars but definately on the subs to gain the experience and give them the chance to shine at top level. Keep them hungry, or get them out the door on loan agains next seaosn as another option.

But getting rid of Becchio, Elmander back it does open the chioce to spend big on one big striker and keep Loza as fourth choice.

Who knows but the future looks full of pace and style! well done the youth development coaches.
