Mr Brownstone 0 Posted March 26, 2014 It''s not the fact that we lose games away from home that concerns me, that''s to be expected, it''s the fact that we rarely even give ourselves a chance in these games.
Juggy 0 Posted March 26, 2014 We finished 18th in the away league table last season. We are 19th in the away league table for this season.Lakey was boasting about our 2 away wins yesterday, perhaps he can come along and tell us how wonderful we are away from home. Why?[/quote]Putting the early season aside, since our WDD sequence, we have had five away games. Everton away - ok a 2-0 defeat, fair enough. Cardiff and West Ham though were attacking performances where we did not sit deep and could have won both matches easily. Villa we attacked - and got punished as a result - weak in defending against pace because we played more like 442 with Hoolahan playing forward. Southampton was poor, no doubt. As usual its a mixed picture - results not there, but WH or Cardiff should have been the redeeming feature of that run. That they weren''t is down to the strikers and the late substitutions at West Ham that did not work.

Juggy 0 Posted March 26, 2014 Only one person on this forum could try and spin 19th place in the away table by starting a sentence like this:"Putting the early season aside, since our WDD sequence, we have had five away games"Translation:"If you ignore the first 7 away games of the season, apart from maybe the third one, and then ignore the last 5 away games that we have played, we are actually unbeaten away from home and right up there with the best in the league".Or:"If we ignore 83% of our away games this season we are actually really good away from home". That is how most people read your claptrap on a daily basis.

That is what I was commenting on - because that is precisely what we weren''t doing at West Ham or Cardiff or Villa. I suspect that we would have attacked more at Southampton, except they got the upper hand too early in the match.

Indy 3,286 Posted March 27, 2014 When you see that away form it adds pressure to the fact we need to pick up six points from three home games against WBA, Liverpool & Arsenal, easy! ;-) Well as some point on here, we never beat Fulham so them being the bogey team we can write that game off, we do well against Swansea away, so might just pick up a draw. Do we thing 35 points might be enough? given our record against the top sides goal difference might just be our downfall, we have to play Liverpool Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, could add another -12 to our total GD. How can a team be so good at home since January and so poor away from home? Since January:Home - W-D-D-W-D-WAway - D-L-L-L-L-L So if we get relegated it''s down to our poor away form and stay up we can thank our home form!

But also some expectations are ridiculously high. There''s fine margins in all thses things just like there is in the whole bottom half. Look what happened to that stat about subs scoring and assisting. In one game Hughton''s record in this was suddenly as good as Lambert''s at Villa. Then there was the not winning games after falling behind stat. One comeback against West ham and suddenly only 11 clubs have won more than that. If, and admittedly a big IF, we win on Saturday we''d suddenly be 16th in the away table. What are realistic expectations? Where would people expect us to be in the away table? How high do people expect us to be in the league table?
lake district canary 4,531 Posted March 27, 2014 "Lake District Chump"Who finds positives in defeat. Well, sometimes you can learn from setbacks - if you want to. The alternative is to go - "Oh no, its terrible, we''re terrible, the manager''s terrible, the football is terrible, we won on Saturday, but Sunderland were terrible which makes us terrible, we were terrible last week, we''re just terrible................" Things are only terrible if you want them to be.
