The wrong team

Recommended Posts

I can understand not changing a winning team but we needed to counter Swansea in the midfield should have gone with left winger Jonas or Redmond. With Hoolahan in the middle and one up front get RVW to run his nuts off up there.

Would have been ideal for Leroy to replace Wes in middle to give us more energy.

But the way we defended could have played 3 strikers and ended with same result.

Completely agree. Awful decision to have such an open midfield with Wes on the wings, gave Swansea almost unlimited space to allow them to pick passes through us. Needed to be solid in midfield and try to catch them on the counter with a player like Redmond

................. you mean like we have been trying to do all season that hasn''t worked?

And where did you get the idea Wes played ''on the wings''?

It basically did not work yesterday because the players played as if they didn''t give a t*ss. There was no urgency, no fight, p*ss poor defending and no idea whatsoever about how to attack.

The players we have are not bad players, in fact they are quite a talented bunch.

But they need MOTIFICATION, LEADERSHIP and TACTICS THAT WORK!

Although I would have played redmond for wes, it wouldn''t have made that much difference as the team that was chosen (based on hard workers like elmander and RVW) didn''t do the job they were supposed to, or i imagine they were supposed to. You don''t play an attacking line up and not press from the front.

Agreed the players didn''t turn up - or so it seemed, but tactics also dictate how you go about a game, IMO we were set up wrong. Maybe that''s because in previous games we set up differently and that didn''t work out, but IMO another DM would have made sense so their pacy and skillful midfield didn''t have a free run of the park. And if he''s going to play Elmander to rough up their defence (and who did play well) why not play the pace of Redmond, or just the alternative of Hooper in place of the ineffective RvW?

It does not have to to be bj, a midfield triangle of tettey howson hoolahan with jonas and snodgrass wide could have worked, with just one striker up top.

Johnson made less tackles and interceptions than howson and passed the ball away too; it was the extra body in midfield that was needed - the subs did not change that and while jonas helped to give us better shape howson off for bj did not
