Time for Hoddle to save us

Recommended Posts

Every week I see the old boy in that Soccer Saturday studio and that fair breaks my heart that one of our most gifted and visionary players might be available to come and steer our poor old club up the league table.  I know he comes with a bit of baggage but reckon we should be grateful for that as that''s the only reason he''s not managing one of the big clubs.  We could rehabilitate him and reckon he could save our Premiership skins, even if he does get the players wearing them energy crystals and all that mumbo-jumbo.  What do you lads reckon to that?

There''s good reason why those guys are on telly instead of instead of in the dug out, Le Tis, Merson, Thompson and Nicholas are best suited to be chatting to Jeff Stelling.Hoddle needs to stay on the TV as well, can''t say I''ve seen him on Soccer Saturday though.

If he''s so great a manager, why hasn''t any other club been snapping ay his heals. The answer is he isn''t so great!

Hoddle said that he wasn''t interested in the Swansea job.

If he wasn''t interested in Swansea then he won''t be interested in us.

He is holding out for the Spurs job in the summer.

His exile has been self-imposed and his recent decision to return to management will be on his own terms. If he can turn his nose up at the Swansea job then he obviously as bigger plans.

do you not think that he knew swansea thought he was a weird little man who wouldn''t hire him so to give himself comfort he said that? Worth a gamble for a League one team as he''s not a bad manager, but jeez spurs will have to be in a pretty bad way for him to go there

"Always was a good club manager"

He was also an excellent international manager, his 60% win rate with England is the third best in history.

Bor, I kinda like the idea of rehabilitating him. We need a virgin round these parts, a willing volunteer to come to pagan Norfolk of his own free will. A few pints in the Skeyton Goat, then into the woods, where seven Witches could dance naked round him, six fingered masked folk would then tie him to a wheelchair & force him to watch the para Olympics over & over, The final party at Sidestrand Cliffs, the Wicker Manager.

Hoddle is a bit different. He was naive in expecting his alternative views to be accepted, especially by the media, when he was England manager, but most of his methods and reasoning were sound.  There are no doubt about his abilities as a coach and manager - which at the end of the day should be all that matters.   His gaff about disabled people was just that - a gaff.  He was regurgitating some  religious/philosophical thing he didn''t really understand and if he had just stuck to the football side of things he would have been ok.  Still got something to offer imo.

Last year Hoddle and McClaren were in the studio for an England U21 game.

Hoddle looked at the way players were using the ball. Picking out specific examples of the types of passes being played and where one side was smarter with the ball than the other.

When it came to McClaren''s thoughts on the game he talked about the "fear factor" and "passion".

Hoddle has a combination of attributes that make him still a force.  His footballing ability is nothing short of inspirational. His man management skills are superb and he talks with authority and common sense.  His knowledge of the more "alternative" aspects of life such as spiritual matters and the way energies can be harnessed to improve performance do work - and a lot of the latest thinking in sports psychology reflects this.    The only downside is when he tries to do or say things that are just too far away from the norm that people rebel.

I mentioned Hoddle a few months ago and received feedback as though I had suggested someone as old as Ron Atkinson. I can only speak as I see, and from his several appearances as a pundit over here, he is really very impressive and I would have no problem shoould he find his way to our club should the time come when we need a new Manager.

He hasn''t managed a team since 2006, runs his academy in Spain and picks up plenty of tv work.

Has been linked with loads of clubs in the last 8 years but has always said he wasn''t interested.

Why would he suddenly decide that he wanted the hassle of managing again?

Cannot see it myself.

He is a visionary coach with an exceptional view on how football should be played. He has been running his academy in Spain for several years now, and has turned down numerous offers to return to club management. Even though he''s been out of the management game for a long time, it''s hardly like he''s been loafing around not doing anything. Mentioning ''rehabilitation'' is an interesting point, as his academy specialises in working with young players whose professional contracts have not been renewed.
