Sunderland....

Recommended Posts

If they win today (and they are currently winning) they are going to be outside of the relegation zone.

What a meteoric rise they are having after being rock bottom, unable to score, and conceding multiple goals most weeks.

There was a poster on here who almost daily was saying that changing a manager changes nothing. In Sunderland''s case it seems to be changing a lot.

Changing a manager undoubtedly works in some instances. Some players feel better after a clean slate is put in front of them, others find themselves able to better express themselves as they have a renewed interest in putting forward their own input, aware that seniority have yet to form opinions about them.

Some player discover that a certain management style afford them much more self belief...they are given greater freedom and so become more proactive, or they given enough structure and routine to allow discipline to form their careers...

It works in the same principles as any other job.

I could have just described any boss/worker relationship in either the private or public sectors in our country.
Pullis and Poyet have improved those teams in just a few weeks , in almost 2 seasons Hughton has taken us backwards .
Although point must be made, both are still below us in the Table!

Right - Tottenham currently down 1-3 at home of course... and changing manager has helped Cardiff, Fulham, West Brom (or even Stoke or Man United?)

Change managers isn''t always a positive change.

Tottenham 4-1 down at home now... sounds like a reversion to the form they had before they changed manager?

IMO the point being made was changing managers may work for some teams, but usually only works in the short term, or for those woefully underperforming relative to their available player talent.

"Tottenham currently down 1-3 at home of course"

5th in the league! Much higher than they were when they sacked AVB.

"and changing manager has helped Cardiff"

Has only been three weeks, bit early to judge considering Solksjear has literally only just brought in players.

"Fulham"

Higher in the league now then they were when sacking Jol.

"West Brom"

Higher in the league than they were when they sacked Clarke.

" They are playing Man City with 10 men you bloody imbecile! "

So if we lose 5-1 at home to Man City in a couple of weeks will you be as accommodating to our manager?

Tottenham had 16 points in 5 games before tonight and have just been beaten by the team who have just gone top of the league having won 8 league games in a row, have put 6 past Arsenal this season and have a +38 goal difference.

If you think that''s poor form then you are an idiot, and if you think our situations are comparable then you are an idiot. Spurs were mid-table under AVB and now they are 5th.

I wouldn''t expect you to attempt to put any sort of context to results. I mean.... not like Spurs didn''t concede 6 goals to Man City earlier in the season with 11 men on the pitch under their previous manager is it?

Oh....

Depends on the manner of the defeat I''d imagine.

I remember the lads getting a standing ovation after losing 6-1 to City, because they gave their all, had a go and were in the game for 70 minutes, before ultimately running out of legs.

A repeat of the spineless 7-0 no show at the Etihad and it''s probably going to get unpleasant.

We should have made the move for Poyet when he was available , quite a few thought he would be a good choice to replace Hughton .

sunderland couldn''t do any worse than they were doing, crystal palace look like they could get relegated, cardiff are now bottom, west brom look no different. We haven''t looked very good this season but are mid table. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn''t. atm i don''t want to find out

And if we had changed our manager where in your opinion do you think we would be in the table?

The only unexpected result tonight was W Hams point at Chelsea. They had one shot and one on target. Chelsea had 39 shots 9 on target and 72% possession.Funny old game.

A quick point on changing manager;

Worthy replaced by Grant, replaced by Roeder replaced by Gunn... so it was on the fourth go (Lambert) that things actually improved. In fact they got steadily worse.

The point is that it isn''t the change itself that works. Hughes, Meulensteen and Solskjaer (so far) are showing that. It often has immediate results if the previous incumbent has ''lost the dressing room'' as Di Canio certainly seemed to have, but that doesn''t seem the case here. On the whole it is a risky move. You need an excellent candidate who will suit your club and players. I''m not sure that person is out there right now.

Don''t get me wrong, we need a change somewhere, but when we are sitting 12th in the league, closer to the top half than the relegation zone, it really doesn''t make any sense (from a boardroom perspective) to change things just because the fans are bored of the style of play. It is effective enough right now when you compare our results with those around us. (Hull, Stoke, Swansea, West Brom, West Ham,Cardiff and Fulham have all taken less points than us in the last 10 games)

Everyone moaned how useless we were losing 7-0 to Man c.Spurs, alledgedly a top six team lost 6-0 to man c under AVB, and now 5-1 at home to them under their new manager!Changing a manager doesn''t prove anything. Some improve, some don''t. There''s no golden formula. For all the Hugton haters who say he has taken us backwards, even though we''re currently in 12th, just who would you have instead, that a) we could get, & b) could guarantee they''d do better. You can''t so please give it a rest! Oh yes, Spurs are doing better cuz they only lost 5-1 this time round under their new manager!

Change managers isn''t always a positive change.
But equally it isn''t always a negative as some would suggest.
