CanaryOne 0 Posted February 1, 2014 Norwich City boss Chris Hughton will be backed in the January sales Norwich City club record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel was one of a clutch of new recruits over the summer. Picture by Paul Chesterton/Focus Images Ltd Friday, September 13, 2013 8:52 AM Norwich City chief executive David McNally has pledged the club’s board is again prepared to back Chris Hughton in the January transfer window. Comments Email Print The Canaries attracted seven new signings to Carrow Road over a productive summer and McNally, who was yesterday confirmed as a newly-elected Premier League representative to the FA Council, believes Norwich can compete again for potential New Year targets.“Yes there is money available again in January,” he said. “We have some budget preserved from the summer spending efforts. We’ll sit down with Chris and see where, if necessary, we need to reinforce the squad. It is always sensible to have some money available for January because things like injuries can happen and we have seen that with Elliott Bennett recently. He’ll be back I’m sure early in the New Year but his injury was a blow we had not anticipated. “We did try to bring in loan cover to support that but who knows between now and Christmas. There are many, many football matches and our requirements for January may change and may evolve depending on injuries, depending on form and the evolution of the squad. The squad has changed dramatically over a relatively short period. I think Russ (Martin) and Wes (Hoolahan) are the only two now who remain from that League One title-winning squad. It shows how quickly things can change.”McNally, speaking to the club’s official site, is also confident City’s commitment to youth development can bear fruit in the coming seasons following last season’s landmark FA Youth Cup success. “That win is a measure of the progress people like Ricky Martin, Neil Adams and many others have achieved,” he said. “Clearly there is a challenge doing well at academy and Under-18 level and then progressing through to the first team in the Premier League. The club has come a long way in a short period of time and the Premier League is the toughest, most successful league in the world. The move towards the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) is a big step in the right direction.” Order your copy of The Canary magazine Order your copy of Norwich City: History as it Happened Read our digital publication
morty 0 Posted February 1, 2014 It states that there will be money available, do you have evidence to prove that it wasn''t?Or, is it perhaps the case that the players just weren''t available at the right price, so we decided to keep the money in our pocket, rather than just spunk it away on an overpriced player, just for the sake of it? CanaryOne 0 Posted February 1, 2014 Or they will not give more money to a manager who spent millions in the summer to make us even more terrible than we were last season .Hughtons a dead man walking .
Bill 1,788 Posted February 1, 2014 "We’ll sit down with Chris and see where, if necessary, we need to reinforce the squad."Hughton DOES NOT get given millions. Christ, McNally has even bleedin said it with the comment about sitting down with the manager. The reality is the scouts bring in reports to the board, as does the manager and coaches regarding current players. The board makes the decisions from there and McNally does the negotiations. What on earth planet are you on if you think that the club simply hands over an amount of money and says there you go ?And do you really think that the club would risk their PL status because they did not trust the manager, if that was the case why is he still here ? Jacko 0 Posted February 1, 2014 How can you be absolutely certain about that? Wenger was given a lot of money to spend by the board at Arsenal but opted not to spend it in January because he didn''t feel the right player was available at the right price. While Hughton obviously wouldn''t have had the warchest available to him that Wenger did, if the board had lost faith in Hughton to the extent which you say then he would have been sacked. The board would not have gambled seeing out the rest of the season with a person that they had absolutely no faith in.
