Playing for a draw
I am happy with a point. Had we have mirrored our first half performance we may well have got 3.

I would like to have seen Wes or josh Murphy come on as well as Ricky. Just to freshen it up.

The disappointing this regarding the last two games is that the opposition have come off the back of two midweek performances, yet looked more dangerous in the closing stages of the game than we have.

Are we fit enough?
A friend was asking the exact same thing on Twitter. Perhaps it''s not so much a lack of fitness but that the latter stages of both games were when Elmander had gone off the field?

We may be more mobile without him but less "sticks" at the top end increasing the pressure on our defensive players.

Suggesting that our players aren''t fit is insulting to their professionalism and given that plenty of them report for international duty, would surely have been picked up on by the coaches and fitness staff there.

And if we had won we would be six points further away from Sunderland than is we had lost.

The fact that the question was asked in that context is to offer it as a potential explanation for other sides perceived superiority in the latter stages of matches.

Splitting hairs Vanwink?

Looking at the away attendance yesterday we were the lowest in the league by 1000 at only 800. West Ham next lowest at 1800. Although it felt more than 800 yesterday, sad we couldn''t muster more on the road, especially given free coach travel.

That kind of ratio of positive results was never going to be sustained in the Premiership where our historical ratio is roughly 2 wins and 3 draws every 10 matches.Such is life.

Not just me:

Steve Gedge "Had Sunderland won they might still be bottom of the table, but would go into their forthcoming fixtures against Cardiff and Aston Villa full of hope for breaking clear of the drop zone.

Now, after a frustrating afternoon, on and off the field, they must be wondering where their next victory is going to come from"

Paddy Davitt "Sunderland’s sixth winless top flight game kept them marooned at the very bottom and listing dreadfully. Poyet’s side require five points simply to edge out of the bottom three - given their parlous goal difference - another four points just to draw level with Norwich. Those are huge deficits approaching the half-way mark of the Premier League season".

I really think not losing to Sunderland was the most important outcome. Our achieving that has left Sunderland as good as down and there are now two relegation places left.
Out of interest, could anyone conjure up that statistic about being bottom at xmas wrt to relegation?
Yes, always relegated except for the one occasion when WBA beat the drop by a single point in 2004/05

So Worthy was to blame for that record being spoiled too...
