He never said anything about big clubs, he was asked directly if the FA cup was an unwanted distraction and he carefully agreed stating prize money for staying up as his main target. The reason Swansea were able to win a cup last year is that they had points on the board early doors and never really looked in danger of relegation.

Regardless of who said it, surely the problem is having two doemstic cup competitions and its about time one (not the FA Cup) was dropped to lessen the number of games and perhaps move one of the Christmas/New Year games to a mid week earlier in the season.

I think the Cups do have a place, but they''ll never be the priority they used to be. It is a chance to rest players after the Christmas crush of games (I''m glad it''s the Cup and not a PL game tomorrow with Fer out and all the current injuries - some breathing space at least).

Having said that though, it wouldn''t bother me that much if we don''t go through tomorrow.

IMO this fewer games is just nonsense, that everybody just repeats.
Firstly leagues below the Prem have several more games to play.  And besides, the blubbing about game numbers came from the teams playing in the Champions'' League, and now everybody is crying about it.
As Morty''s fashionable phrase of the new year is.  They should man up and get on with it.

What difference does reducing the amount of cups per season have?

Absolutely nothing, 3 teams will be relegated regardless and clubs will loose out on income. Each club is allowed a squad of 25 players to handle such things so why do people moan about it instead of get in the spirit of the great history of the cups.

If we won the cup and got relegated, it would be because that we were''n''t good enough to stay in the EPL. Same with any other team, for example we should look back at results such as Fulham and Cardiff at home and accept we should have done better instead of making excuses about the cup.

Exactly John. Get rid of the "European League" for Champions, Runners Up, Third placed and sometimes even fourth placed teams and put it back to a knockout format for the "Champions" only. FA Cup winner and League Cup winner to play in knockout "Cupwinners cup"2-4th in League plus one wild at discretion of FA to be awarded for eg runner up League or FA cup, fair play etc. This would solve all the perceived fixture congestion problems the same clubs who perennially fill their trousers from the bloated Euro League competitions have the gall to complain about. Of course one might be able to predict that the only objectors to my master plan to reduce fixture congestion are the very same ones who profit from them.....[:S]
