History Repeating Itself?

Recommended Posts

40 years ago 1973/74 season we got relegated from the top flight finishing bottom with 7 wins. Got that spooky feel about it. Hull and Newcastle games not for the faint hear ted. 4 points minimum from those 2 fixtures needed but the form book does not suggest this will be the case. Things coming to a head , the Board have backed their man, but its all looking a pretty stubborn and misguided decision now. Sadly i cannot see 1 team in worse form than us let alone 3.

The repetition is also clear with 2012-13. We had a good run in the late autumn, but in the second half of the season we struggled and declined in league position. We were saved in the end, and achieved even respectability, not so much from any action by the manager as by the unexpected points picked up at the end. (Who gave us any chance at the Etihad?)

We would have to give some credit to Hughton for the mini salvation, in that he had realised his folly of using Howson in a defensive role. Howson responded with the two brilliant goals. Perhaps, and I have doubts, Hughton could pull a rabbit out of a hat this year?
