crabbycanary 2 Posted November 18, 2013 Paddy Davitt''s piece on the Sunderland team 1985 on the main Pinkun page.It does show how big a part dressing room harmony counts, either way, and also it seems how Hughton let the players get on with it at half time vs West Ham. He would, obviously, need to build on that, in the right manner, this week. Good piece of man management, or not?
Zak Van Burger 0 Posted November 18, 2013 Sounds like the players mutinied again to me.
TCCANARY 263 Posted November 18, 2013 It''s a quite well known tactic and used by lots of managers, they deliberately do not go into the dressing room for the first 5 to 10 minutes at half time to allow the players to ''debate'' with each other what happened in the first half. Some listen at the dressing room door to hear whats being said, others know the vocal players and either let them have a shout & moan and then ask the rest of them what they think should be done to rectify any problem, the manager then tells them what they think and sometimes as Brian Clough used to say, they have a frank exchange of views and then agree that the manager is right. I remember reading one player saying that a manager he played for always used to say "right, you f**** got us into this mess, what are you going to do to get us out of it". One ex-pro told me that a manager he played for used to shout and scream at the players whether they were winning or losing, then he would walk out of the dressing room with about 5 minutes left of half time with the last bit of advise being "just f****** win", he said he was the best manager he''d ever played for.
