Can we win today?

Recommended Posts

Of course we can, despite injuries we still have an excellent group of players available, given the right leadership, motivation and strategy, we should be coming away with 3 points.

Let''s hope the travelling faithfull are given a performance that will warm their spirits in the SH that is The Hawthorns

Have not had a bad record there recently!

The old "elephant trap", clearly set up to jump back on this thread at 5pm with the expected outcome.

" leadership, motivation and strategy"That''s all we need then.  If we get those three things right, the players can just turn up and win?One of the most disappointing features of the anti-Hughton campaign has been the almost total lack of responsibility or accountability put onto the players for simply not performing at the level they are capable of.  You can question motivation and tactics, but ultimately the players on the pitch need to take some of the heat for being unable to retain possession, complete simple passes, or carry out basic defensive duties.  It''s easy to pin it all on Hughton & Co, but a lot of the problem is the lack of players taking responsibility on the pitch.

It''s sad how quickly a positive thread can be turned into an attack on our players!

Its not an attack - its accepting things as they are and wanting things to improve.  [:P]

I had no idea you were such a sensitive soul.  Let''s hope our excellent group of players have a bit more backbone.
Given the right leadership (on the pitch and off it),

motivation and strategy, and our excellent group of players performing at the level we know they are capable of, including a greatly reduced number of basic errors, we should be coming away with a positive result.
Appreciate that doesn''t fit quite so well with the Hughton Out! bandwagon, but at least it''s a more rounded perspective and suggests our players may be at least a tiny bit responsible for the outcome of matches.

Of course we can win:

WBA scored 17 conceded 19 goal diff -2

NCFC scored 12 conceded 28 goal diff -16

Errrr, maybe not! They don''t ship as many goals!

On what planet SHOULD we be coming away with 3 points? They have a better squad with better, more experienced players. They are playing better football even against the top teams AND we have Hughton AND it''s an away game.

We COULD come away with 3 points but there is no way we SHOULD be coming away with 3 points

We can but I''ll be surprised if we do. Think it''s time to stop trying not to lose away games & just go for it. This is not a Man C, Liverpool or Arsenal - it''s one of our more realistic chances of getting a win away from home.No more Hull City efforts - positive team selection (which must include Hooper), positive tactics, positive attitude and positive substitutions could get us a positive result. The question is though, is Hughton capable of such a U-turn?We''ll see.

If we don''t get at least 4 pts from our next 3 away games (WBA, Sunderland, Palace) then frankly, we really are stuffed. The positive brigade have been harping on for weeks now how we cannot expect to get anything at the Emirates, Etihad, Anfield etc. Well, that defeatist attitude is no longer relevant. It must stop. Starting at 3pm today.

BTW, I''m really not convinced that everyone HAS only been pinning the blame on Hughton. For example Bassong came in for a lot of stick after his no-show at Man Citeh. And Russell Martin too . Bradders seems to come in for criticism regularly. But, ultimately, the buck has to stop somewhere, and to most of us it''s the manager/coaches.

Today is definitely a winnable game and I am looking forward to listening in from work. Will we win is a different matter, I think it will depend on the first goal. If we get it I think we could well grab that elusive away win but, the way the squad confidence seems if we concede first then I fear it could be another collapse on an England cricket scale.

Spot on Reggie, anyone who went to White Hart Lane for example would have witnessed the players coming in for a lot of criticism at the final whistle.

People that suggest otherwise clearly don''t attend games and actually see what''s happening. There will always be armchair critics but often they don''t have the full picture mate!

We have an outside chance of a win.  WBA are going through a sticky patch themselves, with one win (against Palace) in eight games. To get that win we would need to take the game by the scruff of the neck from the off. Control midfield and silence the crowd. Take the few chances that come our way, and withstand a late WBA home onslaught. We would need a lot of players who have been under-performing lately to step up and show their mettle.  Players like Howson, who tend to go into their shell, need to show more of their positive side and impose themselves on the game.Tactically, if Hooper doesn''t start with Wes playing in behind him, then we haven''t got much chance of a positive result, in my opinion.  To win you need creativity and a goalscorer, as well as defensive resilience.

Although of course some points is what we all want as its points that count. I just want to see a good away performance.......or a scrappy win, as long as we don''t capitulate like we have against the big teams.
