Getting better?...

Recommended Posts

9 points out of a possible 15 since the 7-0 thrashing of man city! Grinding out wins when needed also against teams in and around us! Ok the performances aren''t the greatest but its all about 3 points! Has mr hughton found his best 11 and formation and is the team starting to gel/click

Nah it will get better but when does any team ever play it''s "best 11"? there is usually always an injury or suspension to deal with. That''s why you have a squad.

We played a different team today, not one that was perfect in all areas but one that was good enough in the right areas to count. that''s why we won today.
Fair enough mate, on overall performances or personal performances
As a team- there are glimpses of it but no two players seem to be on the same wavelength. to create chances we seem to have to rely on huge holes in the opposition defence rather than being able to unlock them neatly.Defensively there is a fundamental lack of cohesion and ability to cover each other, all leaving Ruddy very exposed.

There were some outstanding personal performances - Fer, Redmond (not shooting!), Ruddy, Bassong and Turner throughout, and Howson in the first half. Hooper could not have done much better, as he had few chances. Elmander in his own way played well - he will have several bruises on his back and neck this morning from the treatment he had from his marker.

The defence was frail, despite Bassong and Turner. Unless we make this more secure we shall concede plenty of goals to better teams than WBA were yesterday.

It seems to me that the Fer/Howson combination goes from strength to strength, despite the former apparently playing on the left wing. It was good to see Bassong and Turner back to something like their best.

There may be a long-term improvement when the injured return, but I think that any improvement yesterday was at best incremental.
