This is not a pro-Hughton post, but please can we stop blaming the manager for everything!     You can''t blame him for the technical inadequencies that are still in the squad.   There have been a succession of injuries too, starting with Hooper, Bennett etc etc. You can''t blame him for that.

Players have to stand up and be counted and be the professionals they are.   On paper the team looks decent enough - and some of the outfield play has been much better of late.   The performance against Manure though left me seething - because I saw players who appeared not to be bothered.   The performance against ManCity also left me seething for the same reason.  They simply stood around and watched.  

I''ve seen the same in other games.  Against Arsenal, players weren''t picked up or chased back and space wasn''t closed down.  I don''t blame Hughton for this - I blame the players.   Players should not have to be motivated by someone else to give their utmost.   They have to stand up and be counted.  If some think they don''t have to harry and chase back to the utmost, they don''t deserve to be in the team at all.   

I''m angry about where we are and the way things are going, but I don''t blame Hughton entirely.  To me its a "desire" thing.   The players have to show their desire ALL the time they are on the pitch, whoever and wherever they are playing.   Any less is an insult to the fans, the manager and the club. They can all do better, manager and players.   None of us knows if Hughton will stay or go, but as long as he is here the players have to give  everything to the cause.   After the last two performances it doesn''t look like it and to me that is disgraceful.

The players have to believe in what their being asked to do LDC, if they don''t then it shows in the way they perform, you may say that''s unprofessional but it''s the way it is.

It all comes down from the top and if there is confusion and lack of confidence it will show in performance.

Well, Lakey, despite your opening sentence, however you dress it up, this IS a pro-Hughton post.

That said, you make some reasonable points. It''s true that some of the players have not exactly covered theirselves in glory over the past games. I know that there are some on here who don''t agree, but I believe that, with the kind of money these guys are taking home, the very least we can expect is some passion and belief when they take to the field in a yellow shirt.

But the problem is that you cannot make a silken purse out of a sow''s ear, and it''s pretty clear that the players have lost faith in the Hughton method. Ultimately it''s his job to provide a framework in which the players can express themselves to the best of their ability. And he''s singularly failed to do that; niot just in the last half dozen games, but over a period of months now. In their heart of hearts they know that under this setup,they are not going to achieve the professional satisfaction they desire.

So, whilst, as you say, not acceptable, it is, if nothing else understandable.

Why do so many people assume that just because someone earns a lot of money they are immune to the negative feelings and emotions that drive a poor (dispassionate)performance.

 

As human beings we can all get pee''d off over things that ultimately we allow to affect our performance.  It could be argued that the more you earn the greater responsibility you have for ensuring you have an attitude which is able to overcome these negative feelings and emotions, especially if your salary comes directly from the people you are paid to entertain.  However, most people do not know how to change their attitude or thinking to turn a situation around and then to make this change permanent, because unless the underlying values and beliefs are ''improved'' permanently then just as a stretched elastic band snaps back to its default position so will  behaviour exhibited as a result of a temporary change to attitude.

 

My question is, what do the club, or management, do about addressing the values the individual players hold, do they have any real understanding the massive part attitude plays in performance.  Why is it other sports, such as golf, tennis, rugby, etc. employ full time sports psychologists, yet the vast majority of football clubs do not, is it arrogance or ignorance?

 

I suspect there may be some people who think Sports Psychology is a load of mumbo jumbo, that sportspeople should know how to think to get the most out of themselves, well I suggest that those people think they themselves have it sorted, that they don''t need help in any way with their thinking style. Well I say to them, take a good look at yourself because you are the finished article.  As someone once said, when you are green you are still growing, when you are ripe you start to rot.

 

You can''t put one foot in front of the other without an instruction from the brain, so how the hell are you supposed to play free flowing and exhilarating football, with commitment and passion, without involving the brain?

 

So I say NCFC, Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get some specialist help in this area, just as great Champions from other sports do.
