Could it be? Could it Possibly Be?

Recommended Posts

Since the beginning of last season which Premier League player has scored the most goals direct from free kicks?

Could it be Man City midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure? No!

Could it be the world''s most expensive footballer - Gareth Bale? Nope!

Could it be deadball specialist Leighton Baines? Not him!

Could it be the flawed genius Luis Suarez? Aint him either.

Could it be??...............Could it possibly be.....the Lycanthropic, parsnip nosed left footed winger playing on the right for Norwich City?????

COULD BE!!!

I saw the stat on bbc as well.

Excellent work from snoddy, one of my very favourites. Can''t understand the abuse he gets at times.

I''ve heard a lot of nasty stuff outside of performance and form.

Critique of form is fine, saying ''are you sure he hasn''t been concussed all season'' and thinking your a comic genius isn''t.

But those people aren''t worth listening to Buh.

Whats the point in centring your argument around a few idiots?

I''ve seen many more people defend him as if he''d played a perfect game every single match. Its just as bad (for a different reason). Its just a bit silly going to a few idiots every time you want to defend Snoddy, you''ve not actually given your opinion on his performances, just tried to belittle the general opinion from those who thought he was under performing by outlining the idiots. And we should all know by now every group has their idiots.

He was, and funnily enough since his wife gave birth.  He''s getting the magic back.

Whatever the opinions on our manager, we can never criticise our players for lack of effort - well maybe Man City!!

Snodders has struggled with form of late but he gives his all. Based on Saturday he is getting that form back.

The very brief time I met him he seemed like a really decent bloke with a good sense of humour. There is no doubt that the group of players get on well and that will mean a lot in the weeks and months to come.

I love Snoddy he is a legend but I really don''t understand this concept of abuse.

He has been struggling for form so far this season, I don''t believe anyone has suggested he should be sold , flogged or transported to the new world.

The fact is football is a squad game and sometimes players need a rest due to fatigue or poor form this should not be seen as being anti a certain player because teams like Norwich need every member of the squad.

So lets get beyond this suggesting a player may be a better option for certain games is no slight on anyone.

A manager has two options when a player is as badly out of form as Snoddy was and that''s drop them to light a fire up their backsides, or stick with them and hope perseverance gets them out the other side. Snoddy has always come across in his interviews as the kind of person that just needed to keep trying and dropping him wasn''t going to help.

Managers careers live and die on decisions like this and it''s starting to look like Snoddy is "coming good."

Let''s see if dropping Bassong will have the desired impact too!

Show''s his quality, well done to him! Lots of good comments on this thread too and I agree that he does appear to be the type of player that you leave in rather than drop when he is off form, which I guess you can afford to do due to his usual energy and impact on the side. Dare I say he has been managed well by CH in this case, plus yes he has been improving since the birth of his baby, plus of course the accident his wife had cant have helped his state of mind earlier. Now, I wonder who the next victim of over the top criticism will be?

His dead ball deliveries should not be questioned as he is the best man for the job. 9 times out of 10 they are quality. Kept his head up after a inconsistent run of form but never stopped working and is now producing more.

Has now produced one goal....

I must shut my eyes when Snodgrass is taking corners and FKs and imagine they are rubbish and he''s just got 0 assists and no goal before saturday...

(P.S I do like Snodgrass, I just find it amazing anyone who dares criticise him gets torn apart or associated with the low lives who were happy when he was knocked out. His set pieces really aren''t that great, he does the odd perfect one. For a few games last season we had a good corner/FK tactic where he''d cross it back post to Bassong or near post to Johnson. Two of his three FK goals last season went in via lucky deflections, of course they still count so great, but they weren''t ''quality'' because what he did Saturday was quality, a deflected free kick isn''t. Against Villa he crossed the ball to Guzan more than any Villa player managed to pass to another Villa player. Against Cardiff we had 31 chances, I imagine he instigated a lot, but due to delayed crossing and poor finishing we didn''t score. I think some people don''t seem to realise how hard it for a striker to score when the cross is delayed. Some of it is probably down to poor movement, but mostly not. Anyway, not much point me saying anymore, or any of this really as know one cares. But I wanted to say it, again.)

Just out of curiosity GP please could you tell me which of Snoddy''s free kick goals last season went in ''from lucky deflections''.

Pilks scored from a deflected free kick against Man City - think you''ll find that none of Snoddy''s 3 last season were deflected.

Away against Southampton it hit the keeper and bounced in, there were also a couple of others that he scored around that time that were similar, I wouldn''t criticise him for them because if you don''t shoot you don''t score!

I''m trying to remember the last time at City we had a player who was a genuine threat with a free kick.  It''s a struggle.  My heart sank at Man C when we gave away that free kick (which they scored from) so it''s nice that when other teams concede free kicks to us just outside the box, their fans should now feel the same way.

Also it''s true that Snoddy has been below par recently and Saturday was his best performance for quite a while.  Which probably does have something to do with the baby - footballers are human.

As for abuse - there were some idiots in our fans at Man U saying they were pleased he was being taken off injured, which made me ashamed.  If that''s not abusive, I don''t know what is.

Forgive me the following rant but.....

I refuse to be bullied and I beleive I have never heaped abuse on Snoddy but I have been consistent on this from the first appearance he made.  I do not like Snodgrass in a Norwich shirt.  Moaning, flopping and generally far too slow at getting the ball in the middle from open play and as for his corners!  Thank god for his free kicks because otherwise what is the point of him?   If we could just bring him on for those a la NFL then fine, but otherwise like with Wet Sham''s goal on Saturday he doesn''t even do the defensive duties that apparently Hughton plays him on the right wing for and the vast majority of you admire him for (his headless running about in midfield).  There I''ve said it and got it off my chest.

Long may he continue to shoot though whilst he remains in the team - as Rivvo said if you don''t shoot you will never score so at least he has a go I suppose.

As for free kicks and deflections etc, the goal Toure scored against us and the one Snoddy scored on Saturday, did you see the way Ruddy and Jaskulinen lined up?  Has there been a major re-think on goal keeper positioning at free kicks.  I''m sure in the past that goalie''s lined up behind the wall on the near side to the kicker, but both Ruddy and Jaskulinen lined up on the other side of the goal.  Both times I shouted that the goal was open and both times a goal was scored.  Mind Toure had another effort in exactly the same place 10 minutes later and the wall at least did its job, as it did again on Saturday but I would be interested if any goal keepers out there can let me know if there has been a significant re-think on this.

Do wonder how much this affects players. I rememebr Ashley Ward having a real dip in form after his child was born. Speaking from my own experience I felt like Id been hit by a train the first time I went back to work after we''d had our first child. If he is as much hands on as most dads its bound to take its toll. Though I wonder with it being such a multipound business whether footballers sleep in different rooms etc. Can they afford to have the same parenting experience as most of us, knowing how likely it is to affect their performances?

One of our best, great to see him come into some form, he will go from strength to strength now I''m sure.

Credit to CH for sticking with him and helping him play through his bad spell.

An absolutely fantastic player and it doesn''t surprise me that there''s a section of our fan base don''t like him because he ''argues with the ref''.

Jesus christ, grow a pair. We are much better with him than without him.

I do find it funny though, typically crap Beeb journalism.Snoddy has been out of form and shocking for weeks, scores a freekick ( ok it was a peach) and gets credited with lifting the entire team to win and being in team of the week ! Surely that kudos should go to Hooper for the peno ?Shocking, still Snoddy had a good one on Saturday cant take that away, but also cant take away the shocker hes had to this point. Still havent fully forgiven him for the missed peno or double figures of sh1t corners and free kicks this campaign, still you score a goal and your back to being a saint, love fickle football :D
