Tim Dawson 0 Posted September 21, 2013 So who do you have as yr penalty taker, your main striker who has took penalties at every club he has been at and is rather good at it too. Or your out of form midfielder who to my knowledge isnt a penalty taker ?? Nice one Hughton......
JF 694 Posted September 21, 2013 Unreal isn''t it? My heart sank when Snodgrass stepped up. The decision to have him on penaltys and not RVW needs to be explained cos I would have thought your new 8.5 million striker would be fighting for the chance to score from the spot. Cerberus 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Haven''t you noticed, Snodgrass has to take every free kick and corner, so why should be excluding from monoplising penalties too? As the macth wore on he got some stick for his repeated failure to master the basic art of crossing and was also in an argument with one of our players (not sure who though). Pilks looked good when he came on and it surely must be time to give him 90 minutes now.
kingsway 101 Posted September 21, 2013 RVW wanted the ball to take the penalty but Snodgrass wouldn''t give it to him!In my opinion after Spurs last week Snodgrass was lucky to even be starting let alone take penalties! Snodgrass instead of Redmons should have went of today!
peateabee 0 Posted September 21, 2013 I couldn''t believe it - with hindsight that decision could have cost us. I was hoping when he stepped up that he would just go for a safe one high in to the net down the middle.
GJP 79 Posted September 21, 2013 Snodgrass has too much to say for himself, gets involved in too much and it would appear the manager had failed to take control of that.
Twitchy 0 Posted September 21, 2013 CH has said he expected RVW to take the pen as did the rest of the bench also RVW will be on peno duty in the future.
The Funky Homosapien 0 Posted September 21, 2013 obviously it wasn''t hughton''s decision you mug
Houston Canary 0 Posted September 21, 2013 So why didn''t Hughton or at least whoever was the captain today tell Snodgrass to back off? Was Snoddy wearing the arm band today? Who''s in contol out there?

It was dissapointing to not see RVW really going for the pen. Snoddy needs knocking down a few pegs and learn his place within the team. Hughton said he "expected" RVW to take it... does that mean it wasnt a set and confirmed thing before the game? If he expected him to take it, he should have made it clear to the players. JF 694 Posted September 21, 2013 If that is true and Snodgrass took the penalty when he wasnt the taker then he should have been subbed there and then. Needs to be dropped to the bench and knocked down a few pegs.
Juggy 0 Posted September 21, 2013
obviously it wasn''t hughton''s decision you mug
It''s his job to allocate the job of ''penalty taker'' though isn''t it? Clearly he has forgotten to choose one, which is remarkable. Does it leave question marks about his authority? A club usually has a dedicated penalty taker. Usually it is a striker who is a penalty specialist. Van Wolsfwinkel is a great penalty taker. So why did Snodgrass take the penalty?
JF 694 Posted September 21, 2013 If something as big as having a designated penalty taker hasnt been sorted then you really have to wonder what the hell is going on! He expected him to take it? He is either the penalty taker or not, if Snodgrass has over ruled that then he should be shown the door.
pete 371 Posted September 21, 2013 A very left footed player takes penalty and it goes to keepers left easily read by keeper its not brain surgery.Must be rested.
Guest Posted September 21, 2013 Chris Goreham pressed Hughton for a definitive answer on the designated penalty-taker issue but he rather fudged his reply, perhaps preferring to sort it out in private rather than flame Snodgrass in public.Seems extraordinary that Snodgrass could even consider himself above RVW in the pecking order. Snodgrass needs to learn his place (and also shut his big mouth/stop diving/learn to cross in open play).
BOO 0 Posted September 21, 2013 It''s just another example of the general lack of leadership both on and off the pitch. Nobody seems to know who is in charge!
shefcanary 2,955 Posted September 21, 2013 Snoddy obviously has something on Hughton - only reason in side. I''ve been saying for almost a year now that he completely unbalances the team (despite his goals last season) now he undermines it. If he plays next week then Hughton has to go ''cos it will prove he is not in charge of the dressing room.
BOO 0 Posted September 21, 2013 He should not have been in the starting lineup based his performance last week alone, it''s not as if we are without alternatives, and good alternatives at that!
CJ 1 Posted September 21, 2013 It is Totally unaceptable for a manager not to have arranged who takes the penalty and in effect a deputy should primary taker be off pitch etc. The captain on the pitch should know this and enforce it!Hughton could not run a pee up in a brewery if he does not sort it out for every match , this is basic even at amateur level I ref at ! For him to say afterwards well should have been RVW is pathetic if that is true he needs to go and now , the team seem to have no respect for him and run the team by who shouts loudest on pitch NOT acceptable . Snodgrass needs sorting belives too much the media hype, happened for a while with Huckerby. If I was mcnally would be seriously wondering who is in charge!Hughton looks like he is odds on for pre xmas push, team do not respect him neither do fans, no inspiration no idea no leadership
yoda 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Snoddy should be fined a months wages and reminded that he''s in a team so personal glory should take a back seat.
Branston Pickle 4,150 Posted September 21, 2013 Some seem to not be reading between the lines: for me it reads that RVW is clearly the penalty taker but for whatever reason Snodgrass took it. I imagine he will be roundly bollokked for it, but CH doesn''t do this in public. Btw, see Brentford last season if you don''t think this happens elsewhere: the miss cost them promotion. You cannot blame the manager for it, the players are to blame.
swjf50 0 Posted September 21, 2013 yes shut up Snodgrass, sit on the bench until you improve your play and kicks !!

Hughton admitted in his post-match interview he expected the club’s record signing to step up once Ciaran Clark was adjudged to have handled Snodgrass’ cut back.“Sometimes what you will have on that occasion is a lad who feels very confident that he is going to put it away. That was very much the case with Robert,” he said. “Listen, when you have a penalty you are expected to score. We were all expecting Ricky to take it. Those conversations are very private [over who the designated penalty taker is] but I expected him to take it and if we get one in the future then I would expect him to take it." RvW was the designated penatly taker and Snodgrass - who must have known that - overruled the manager''s decision.
ron obvious 1,711 Posted September 21, 2013 Obviously Hughton should have held Snodgrass while Rickyyy laid him out.Now that would have been REAL leadership.
The Great Mass Debater 1,202 Posted September 21, 2013 Ricky is the penalty taker. Snodgrass decided otherwise. Similar situation to when he was telling Pilkington to F*** off when there was that free kick against Spurs. Thought that showed an ego problem then, and this seems to have confirmed it
Syteanric 1 Posted September 21, 2013 Snodgrass is fast starting to annoy me.. his whole attitude stinks!unless he sorts himself out i can see the fans somewhat turning on him a little bit.
Thecanaryfan 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Martin was captain, Snodgrass is Scottish. There is an allegance there hence why Martin did not intervene. Lesson learnt, RVW will take ALL penalties in future and Hughton will ensure that. Saying that, I doubt we will be given another penalty all season so lets just move on. OMG what a crap day. Scooby 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Turning on him a little bit Jas???? Arrogant little sh1t can F off back to Leeds now!! Thinks he''s bigger than the team.
Ray 111 Posted September 21, 2013 Thecanaryfan, Not sure what game you were watching but Bassong was captain and he is French!! I would suggest that had Martin been captain the situation may have been different.
Marsbar66 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Snodgrass thinks he is right. He''s Scottish, of course he does.Martin is barely Scottish. It''s either in your blood or it''s not.Snodgrass should be dropped for a month so he can think about his actions. You never know, that un scored penalty could relegate us
