im spartacus canary 0 Posted August 25, 2013 do we practice this in training ? every other team in the prem whips them in with pace, our crossing resembles throwing one of those balls on a rope to a dog down the park... the only decent cross i''ve seen this season was Whittaker''s mishit shot for rvw against everton. unique 466 Posted August 25, 2013 This is where Bennett will be sorely missed. He seems to be one of the better crosses of the ball at the club.
Gingerpele 0 Posted August 25, 2013 So you didn''t see Garrido''s cross to RVW yesterday?Or Snidgrass'' to Hoolahan? If that had been too either of the strikers they''d have probably scored. For some reason it was to Hoolahan
Gingerpele 0 Posted August 25, 2013 Oh and the early cross to Fer.
Citizen Journalist Foghorn 0 Posted August 25, 2013 The lack of decent crosses yesterday was solely down to the team selection (hampered by injuries).WIth Howson on the right drifting inside, and Redmond on the left not realising football is a team game, and also cutting inside at every opportunity, we had no width. We had an overcrowded midfield with a lack of players who can actually pick a pass. With all that possession in the second half we could have been peppering them with crosses. Rufus Smalls 0 Posted August 25, 2013 Citizen Journalist Foghorn, I completely agree. With Hull defending admirably (I won''t go as far as to say they defended well, as we never really tested them) with two banks of four in a 4-4-1, we were never going to break them down by playing through the middle, especially with our central midfield combinations. We needed to whip more crosses in, like Whittaker''s cross for Fer in the second or third minute. Redmond seems exciting when he cuts inside, but it''s wasted if he then gives it to a central midfielder, as there''s no hope of creating a chance through our central midfield. Snodgrass looked well off the pace when he came on. We need Redmond and Snodgrass to hug the touchline and put some decent balls into the box if we''re up against an all-out defensive set-up like Hull were yesterday, with some crosses from Garrido and Whittaker too. Working the ball inside was pointless, there were too many Hull players in congested midfield and it would inevitably get knocked back to the defenders, or given away as our passing was worse than usual yesterday. In 2 games, the Wolf has barely had a chance - a header blocked by Distin, a header into the goal, a header well saved by McGregor. He''s obviously got the quality, but we have created nothing through the middle for him. We need to whip more balls into the penalty area if we''re to give him any chances in situations like the Hull match.
