NCFC for life 1993-

Seriously this should be our plan against Villa!

Recommended Posts

Surely we should know the weaknesses of a Lambert team? Play Olsson and Redmond and keep them both on the halfway line. When Villa lose the ball, ping one (better be Fer) to one of them and let them steam down the wing on the counter to attack the gaping hole left in the defence. Wasn tthis Lamberts biggest criticism and the criticisms he''s getting at Villa? If theyre all gung-ho, surely we can exploit and counter that? Or will we sit deep again and allow them to do just that?

Villa are a very different team to Lambert''s Norwich - they are one of the best counter-attacking teams in the League and better away from home than at Villa park.

Norwich will have to be very wary of leaving spaces for Weinmann, Benteke and Agbonlahor to attack - especially when you consider the pace the three of them have. They are a little ropey at the back, and with Okore injured that should help Norwich. Will be a tough game though, Lambert will be looking for a reaction now they have lost 3 on the bounce and this game will have been one marked out for 3 points.

errr, maybe a few ideas such as when we have possession start to move to give the player an option to pass to - it is NOT netball ... zoning should play not part in footballrecognise that players like Johnson do not have pin point passing skills so be aware of a greater need to offer him a passing optionalso when we have the ball we should that is when we should attack, that is the purpose of the game ... to score goals - pretty passing movements made look good and over excite the happy clappies on MOTD later but they serve nothing if it only allows the opposition to regroup and mark our playersthat type of possession passing also serves if your own players are not moving to create spacewhen they have the ball close down as quick as possible ie tight marking - that marking is more important than trying to pack the penalty box and so hopefully restrict the opponents movement with the ball  - the first Spurs goal demonstrated that

what might help is if somebody could give Hughton and his coaching staff the missing pages from the coaching manual - the bits that talk about the basics of the game

Tight marking against pacey players is usually not a good idea, too easy for the opposition to just knock the ball over the defenders'' heads and suddenly Weinmann et al are on a one v one against Ruddy.

The key to beating Villa is controlling possession and putting their dubious defenders under constant pressure - trying overly risky passes in the sake of ''attack, attack, attack'' will just result in them counter attacking - which was witnessed in the game at Carrow Road last season. RvW is very good at providing movement into spaces, Norwich just need to make sure they can find him, the best way of doing that is ''pretty passing moves'' in the Villa half.

I''m not sure how much of that Bethnal is a direct reply and how much is a general thought

it is "too easy for the opposition to just knock the ball over the defenders'' heads" if you are not marking tight as therein lies the problem. we sit off players prefering to back peddle allowing them the time for those type of passes"The in them counter

attacking" key to beating Villa is controlling possession and putting their

dubious defenders under constant pressure - trying overly risky passes

in the sake of ''attack, attack, attack'' will just result
in them counter attacking- that is simply contradictionas is the restmuch a blue plan for our continuing failure
