How do player songs come about?

Just wondering, has anyone on here ever started a song for a player and got it to catch on?

Idea for Becchio or Garrido?

I think there was an idea when we were in the PL (04/05) to have new songs tried out on the crowd and see what they thought were the best.A board member was to come on to the pitch at half time and give us a rendition.I think the idea was abandoned when the songwriters could not be found - despite loud appeals from the board member.

If you go down to the concourse before the game or at half time, you''ll find dotted around some wooden boxes with a few pens and some paper beside them.

Simply jot down your ditty, fold it up and pop it in the box. It''s then reviewed by the Song Committee and if they like it it''s then printed on the complimentary team sheets provided in the Gunn club before the next home match.

From then on its word of mouth.

Of course if you sit in the River End you won''t find any of these suggestion boxes, the scribbling on the paper might wake someone up..;-)

A friend of mine claimed years ago to have come up with the one about Bryan gunn having no hair. Reckoned he just sang it to himself until it caught on around him.
