If you were the manager

Recommended Posts

As it is free day from pre-season games and it is silent on transfer market, lets have a bit fun by playing football manager.

If we got some sugar daddy to give us 40 million euros in transfer budget + wages and with those money we were oblidged to sign 5 more players who would you sign?

Rules are that he has to fit in our wage policy (let say no more than 40k per week at max), he has to be someone to rumoured out in this transfer window and for the fun sake you cant use same players that has been used already in this thread ^^

We ofc presume all these players are eager and happy to join yellow and green.

Also show your new starting eleven and formation you would use.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As in my opinion our middlefield is the position that still needs most of attention I would start signing from:

Geoffrey Kondogbia, 20 years DM - If the rumoured 10 million release clause is true, it would be quite hell of a signing as most likely his transfer value will jump on the roof in next few year. Also with left foot as his primary weapon and good powerful build and good passing and ball protecting skills he would be perfect replacement for Johnson.

There is little bit eye candy about him.

My second signing would be a bit blasphemy as I would sign upgrade for Snoddy.

Alessio Cerci, 26 years RW / CF. He suffered from injuries in start of his carreer, but back then he was speculated to be one of the biggest talents in the Italy. But two decent seasons in Fiorentina and good season in Torino last year and now he is rumoured to move in Milan with transfer fee between 8-10 millions. He is quite much like Snoddy, but with added goal threat and great pace. There are not many centre backs who could keep up with him so he would keep opponents full back at bay. His biggest weakness would be his dependency of his left foot, but that is no change from Snoddy. Ofc there is risk of injuries with him, but then we would have great cover already at the bench ^^ Also big plus is that he can play as a striker if needed. Another plus would be his awesome curly hair which would give us more female attention.

Eye candy.

Third and my most important signing would be attacking middlefielder. I will be the first to break rules and add here +50k salary of

Keisuke Honda, 26 years CAM. Well we debated about him enought earlier in this transfer season, so everyone probably is familiar already with him. Good playmaker with good shot and freekick specialist. As Snoddy is sitting now in the bench we would need someone to deliver those stillballs. As we all know he is free this winter window, so cheeky bid of 6-10 millions should do it.

And the youtube scouting

Well now we have used 24-30 million of our budget. So time to strenghten our defence. Would be easy option to go for Toby, but I will go very similar, but a bit younger version of him.

Stefan de Vrij, 21 CB - As said he is very similar than Toby and can pass great long balls and very intelligent centre back for his age. Already capped for adult national team of Oranje. Risk with him is ofc can he wrestle with physical attackers, but in that role you can grow up and we still have Bassong and Turner, not to mention Martin and Bennett, to give him that time. Also he can play as a right fullback. As I havent seen any rumours about his price I, we will have to go with transfer markets estimated value of 6 million.

and the vid

That leaves us 4-10 millions and with that money I would go for right fullback. Martin is better for CB position and Whittaker is on injury list all the time. Naughton ofc would be great option, but it is too easy, so I will go for another dutch.

Daryl Janmaat, 24 RB - Great going forward and already capped in national team. Not a bad defender either, has a pace and size enough to compete with big pacy wingers and strikers. Rumoured to move with 5 million euros.

My formation would be same as we use now 4-2-3-1

-----------------------Ruddy----------------------

Janmaat - de Vrij - Bassong - Olsson

---------------Fer------------Kondogbia-------

Cerci-------------Honda----------Pilkington

Your turn!

Kondogbia and Honda lol. Thought we were being fairly realistic at least. Kondogbia will be prob best defensive mid in the world within 2 years. Honda there is no chance in hell with mass funding or not.

Would perhaps break the wage structure if there was £40m more to use in transfer fees alone.

I think a new Centre back and a right back would come in, a new DM would too, an attacking mid/ Support Striker and as it''s gotta be five, i''d get another winger in too,

I''d go for Kyle Naughton in and hope he''d cost no more than £7m

Toby Alderweireld seems a good bet for £7m

My attacking mid would be Will Hughes from Derby for £12m, an investment and a player who''d really make us tick.

Defensive mid i''d pluck Diame from West Ham for £3.5m and i''m sure we''d have to pay at least £60k a week due to the low fee.

That leaves just under £10m for a winger... probably a left winger, so i''m thinking of Diego Capel, hopefully bought in for half that amount leaving the remaining £5m to pay the excess wages.

I was thinking about Dawson for CB too - but am struggling for ideas here.

In cm would love a schniederlin type but very dew about - Matic at Benfica if he wages not too high in Portugal (or Fernando at Benfica) but again not an area I know much about.

Up front would love to sign Quag,  and if we had enough cash to spare Kadlec from sparta prague would be great too.

Jimmy is not far away from my thinking:

Naughton, Dawson, Will Hughes, Capel and Defoe.

Should be just enough to cover that.

I''d just fill the team with Belgians...
Alderweireld, Witsel, Lombaerts, Vossen, Lestienne

Fine, I''ll just have Witsel and four random free agents then.
