Indy 3,283 Posted August 6, 2013 Just think that Hughton had his targets and we don''t appear to be linked with other options. This makes me think that we could well see these two in the door before the Everton game. Knowing that these are two ares we need to strengthen on before the season starts. Who knows might be clutching at straws but the recent addition of Fer & Olssen must send the right message that we are looking to move up in the league. tonythai 0 Posted August 6, 2013 Big drift on Alderweird 2/1 out to 6/1,think this one might be over.Everton 2/1,Spurs 4/1.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted August 6, 2013 I think Everton need to move Heitinga on first, Liverpool are moving Skrtel on, but with Toure and Agger, Toby won''t be guaranteed games, so we''d be a better bet than them. Tottenham possibly, but again, Vertongen and Kaboul would be first choice with Dawson and Toby left feeding off scraps of football.I am still watching this one. Perhaps if he moves to Spurs, they may be willing to part with Naughton who i think we need more anyway.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted August 6, 2013 I think the way things are developing we could still get Toivonen which would be exciting but think we have been stuffed with Alerweireld who looks to be going to Merseyside. shame as I think he would have been one of the best signings of the summer. All this activity does put our scouting in a good light though
Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted August 6, 2013 Alderweireld isn''t coming, he has turned Norwich down and would prefer another season at Ajax than moving to NCFC. It''s a shame but he was always going to be difficult to convince. Tottenham had to play a friendly with no centre backs the other day due to injuries, I think they will make a quick move for him in the not to distant future. Toivonen is a bit of a mystery - but seems unlikely.

Russell Martin becomes our third/fourth centre back (which he wants to become anyway), problem solved. Would be great seeing Naughton and Snodgrass on the right. ROBFLECK 132 Posted August 6, 2013 Alderweireld has said in the Dutch and the Belgian press he just did not think City was a club for him. www.nieuws.nl/sport/20130713/Alderweireld-zegt-Norwich-City-af www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/voetbal/buitenland/Nederland/130713_alderweireld_norwich
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted August 6, 2013 Snodgrass could do with someone with pace behind him in my book as it''s the one thing he''s lacking. Imagine Naughton on the overlap from Snoddy''s tricky feet!

As for Toivonen, again he''s been on the market for so long. My point to this thread is that we don''t appear (On the surface) to be going after anyone else, no official links or presss reports to oterh players, just the three that keep coming up. I have my doubts but I still think the longer this goes on the more chance we might have to change their minds. We shall see.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted August 6, 2013 I bet Tottenham are waiting to see what happens with Bale.If that goes through, Spurs have a further £100m to use and may go for a more expensive defender.
BroadstairsR 2,138 Posted August 6, 2013 Re: The longer it goes the more I think we might end up with Toivonen & Alderweireld Or they might end up with us. Actually, current noises suggest that Quagliarella is the warmest and I have always considered this to be the least likely.

He isn''t in a position like Quagliarella with the club trying to force him out, Alderweireld has played in Ajax''s last two games and has said he''ll sign a one year contract extension if he doesn''t move at the end of August. This isn''t a case that he''ll leave Ajax whatever and Norwich might be his only option. When all is said and done, he spoke to Norwich and he rejected them - for me, that is case closed. As Hughton said, some the media do pick up on and some they do not.He also said that he is looking at a "few" players in Italy. We know about Quag and Maxi Lopez, but the choice of word suggests at least one other that hasn''t been leaked. There is a good chance that one of our next signings, whether it is two or three, is a complete surprise.

thegali 6 Posted August 6, 2013 He is clearly waiting for ''bigger'' club to bid for him. So if he did come I can''t see him staying long.
Salopian 1 Posted August 6, 2013 I have mixed feelings about Toivonen. If we manage to sign Quag, we shall not need the Swede, of course, as they play a similar game. It could well be if no one else signs Toivonen that he will come to us, but I think that he is more likely to re-sign for PSV. He has seemed lukewarm at best in relation to Norwich and has waited for weeks, with the possibility that we might move on for someone else. I would not be upset if he signs for us, but I doubt that he will.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted August 6, 2013 You say we wouldn''t need both, but actually, i don''t see why we couldn''t accommodate both. They are different in ways, Toivonen has the aerial threat and Quag has more tricks in his locker. It isn''t an easy decision to move to us from abroad, so i''d forgive either of them for dallying a bit if they finally do join.It really would leave no space for Becchio really though would it? Cantiaci Canary 556 Posted August 6, 2013 I''m really surprised that you think, ''the longer it goes the more I think we might end up with Toivonen & Alderweireld''.The longer this has gone on, like Quagliarella, the more it seems that these stars don''t fancy coming to Norwich too much!Bigger fish will gobble up Alderweireld, Toivonen and Quagliarella by the end of the window than us I''m afraid to say. Tetteys Jig 830 Posted August 6, 2013 But what if we are Quags only option?Say Juve don''t get enough offers for the other strikers available and ours is the only one on the table, Quag then has to choose over being our best player and having a lot of premiership exposure with a small pay rise or sitting as somewhere between 4th and 6th choice at Juve. Then what does he do?

Evesham Canary 0 Posted August 6, 2013 I wouldn''t be surprised if we don''t sign anyone else until deadline day. The 3 we have been linked with all appear to be seeing what options develop - if little happens then they may decide to come here. A good start to the season could really help us.
