MancCanary 0 Posted August 16, 2013 Bit of a weird one this.. At first I saw 134k followers, and thought this must be his real twitter account - cos 134k is a shitload of followers. But then I searched his name in Twitter and there are about 20 Johan Elmander accounts, most purporting to be him. So it could just be a very popular fake. But then I thought, wouldn''t other swedish footballers like Martin Ohlsson, John Guidetti or Kevin Davies his Bolton teammate, be following him if he''s on Twitter? Well they''re not, so I conclude it is a fake.
Tetteys Jig 845 Posted August 16, 2013 That turkish paper said Elmander is one of 6 foreigners going. I suppose ''documented interest'' is poorly worded but there is a seemingly strong link.

Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted August 16, 2013 Possibly a link that is starting to build up a head of steam. 32 but I suspect would cost little or nothing other than wages. He would no doubt give us options off the bench and has a good track record. He left Bolton after getting about 15 goals and the next season they went down. Still gets a game for Sweden and has 18 international goals. I don''t think we need another striker to push Hooper and RVW, more have a competent person as cover and to change the shape of the game from the bench. He is in the Holt style and 6ft 2ins.If he had been 3 or 4 years younger we would be getting quite excited. If he comes I think he will play a valuable albeit bit part role. If he can come on and get the odd winner or leveller it would be great

Won''t get too excited or downhearted if he does or doesn''t sign, but it makes a change from hearing the same things about Quagliarella. [:)]

And I would be very surprised if we were seriously interested in Elmander, apart from as a fall-back close to the end of the transfer window if we miss out on our preferred targets. If you have 3 or 4 star strikers, all with star striker egos, vying for 1 starting position, 1 or 2 of them are going to be very unhappy. Experienced international players that are reaching the twilight of their careers should bring bags of experience, advice for the youngsters like Carlton Morris and are expected to chip in with the odd vital goal here and there. RVW, Hooper, Becchio, Elmander and Morris, would on paper, look a far stronger attacking force than Holt, Morrison, Jackson, Martin and Vaughan.
clarkey1972 0 Posted August 16, 2013 Some people need a reality check. He would be a decent short term signing for us. Do people really think wevare going to spend £3 or 4 m on another good striker to warm the bench and expect them to stay happy?Holt would have been that man had he been happy to do so......and he wasnt. We need someone better than bechio imho
Dubai Mark 0 Posted August 16, 2013 I am genuinely puzzled, just what is wrong with bringing a player into the squad who may end up having a "bit part"? Football is not just about the eleven who start the game, its about the mix of the squad, and all clube will definately have players in their squads who are not expected to be regular starters. They may have a more specialised role that means they start just a few games or even be signed becasue they are ideal to bring on later in a game, to change the game as part of a change of shape or tactic.Clearly we have two quality new signings who will generally share the responsibility up front, probably usually playing as a one up front and I guess occasionally as part of a two. We then have Becchio who can cover for these two (who will also be a valuable "bit part" player) and then what do we have? So, it would be ideal to have a different type of front man as an option sat on the bench, wouldnt it?.......and this guy would certainly be ideal for that role if we are unable to secure your prime targets right now. He has plenty of experience both in the Premier League, at some big clubs abroad and at international level, who know''s he may start as a regular substitute, impress so much that he starts to get regular starts.Other "bit part" players in our squad, all of who will play a very valuable "bit part", some of whom were signed to be "bit part" squad members, some who were regulars have been over taken by others in the squad or new signings are......Bunn, Fox, E.Bennett, Becchio (already mentioned), Whittaker (once Bassong is back probably), R.Bennett, and any other member of the squad who makes something like less than 10 appearances or perhaps more.....lets just call them "squad players" who will all play their part in a long season.......thats a good idea..... GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 2,022 Posted August 16, 2013 Looks like this transfer may have happened tonight?a quick twitter search of the word "Elmander" reveals hundreds of Galatasaray fans writing good luck an farewell messages......they can''t all be wrong or fooled by a fake account?looks like its a free transfer too.................decent signing for a free but the flip side might well mean the end of the pusuit of Quagliarella and almost certainly Toivenen. norfolkbroadslim 223 Posted August 16, 2013 IF true it''s a good bit of business. We need another striker and one such as Elmander, who isn''t going to be a regular starter, on a free is good business. I also don''t think this would mean that the search for a CAM is over and I''d also like to see us sign a CB.

Have him playing for the development squad where he''s not improving as a top player, wait until he puts his parts on and poisons 1/2 of the 1st team squad, get relegated and ship him out at a £4m loss?Ridiculous. Is it not better to have a proven international, with bags of experience, happy to play the Wilbraham/Svensson/Scholes bit part role, who can help the younger players, score the odd important goal and if our 2 star strikers are both out for an extended time together will do an ample job deputising? Dubai Mark 0 Posted August 16, 2013 City 1st, cant talk your way out of this one..... just admit you are wrong and move on........ this is just about what words are used to describe a player who is in the squad yet doesnt make many appearances, sometimes it can be intentional as he has been signed as a squad player and not first choice........it is possible that sometimes others will disagree with you and that sometimes you will be wrong....... I will not be replying any further on this, as like many other posters I am sick of those on here who seem to want to continually pick arguments and label others opinions as "twaddle" and similar.....when they of course talk sense all the time...... Do we see a signing for that role in this window is different case, but as Hughton doesnt seem to trust Becchio at all Elmander for free and with rumoured wage would be decent signing. even if it isnt most exiting.I would have been happy with our current striker trio, but Elmander is a good team player to have and with his strengh he could be very useful during last 20 minutes or fighting for points when behind or keeping ball up. Not over to moon if we sign him, but I respect the player enough to understand he would be quite a big leap from Becchio.
Barclay hero 0 Posted August 16, 2013 City 1st....youre as bad as my ex missus finding fault with other peoples comments and then saying the same sort of stuff yourselfgoalkeepers aren''t bit part players, there is only one keeper in a game so there will always be two not playing - that is not bit partSo what about subs? Injuries? Why have we got 3 senior people on the books. Nash is by very definition "bit part" but may - or may not - play this seasonwe currently have one space left in the squad, we do not have the space or money for any ''bit part'', ''part time'', ''might do a job when we are stuck'', ''could help out with the bibs'' etc type of playersIts a squad game. Some of the 25 will not feature more than a few minutes over the course of the season. Some may not even feature other than to take a regular place on the bench and as such they will probably spend more time with the bibs in your words....this blokes name has only come up because he isn''t wanted where he iswhereas our other signings have pretty much been players who were still wanted at their clubs and have been brought in not only because they are good enough to play full time, but because they will also develop with the clubPossibly. But remember that we only got The Wolf because Sporting were skint and we waved shedloads of money under their nose. Fer was seen as a possible injury liability by other Prem clubs. Hooper moved because he basically told Celtic he didnt want to spend more time North of the Border and the only other option was QPR. In fairness to Elmander if that IS his comment on Twitter (and appreciate there is plenty of doubt) then he clearly wants to come and play for us. That makes him more hungry to prove a point that Quagliarella, Alderweild, Toivonen et alplayers such as Fox and Peayalla, who apparently have dropped away, will be replaced at some time by players of the above quality and potential - not by misfits that have overexcited the usual dimwitted numptiesThats progress. Eventually (hopefully) we will look to replace Fer, Wolfswinkel, Hooper etc with whoever is deemed to be "Champions League" level at the time. We are looking to push on and this bloke will be of a level to help us to do that. He''s the next level up from Becchio - who is probably going to find City''s level has pushed above his own in a shorter timeframe than many will have thought (I think Becchio actually came here with the club having one eye on the Championship). I think we''re now looking to do more than just survive - remit this season has to be comfortable midtable and a cup run based on what we''re spending. "Little Norwich" is now a thing of the past although it has to be said not for many journalists and TV pundits....
