Michael Mancienne

Recommended Posts

WARNING: Pointless Post Alert

Sorry if the title got anybodies hopes up. I''m not ''in the know'', haven''t seen anything on twitter, and don''t read the red tops. Instead I''m just - rather pointlessly - sharing the name of a footballer that I''d love to see at Norwich.

We arguably don''t need a centre back, especially if we have a right back lined up, but if Martin can be persuaded to do one more year as a specialist right back, and if Leon Barnett and/or Daniel Ayala leave, then another surely wouldn''t do any harm.

If I could choose any realistic defensive target it would be Kyle Naughton, if he was out of the question then I''d love to see us sign Michael Mancienne. One of the most underrated English players, great attitude, and one who is actually willing to shun the London party scene / WAG scene to go and play football in a country where they take football seriously.

He has become an important and respected player for a big club (Hamburger SV) who a little like Sporting Lisbon are currently underachieving, they only paid a couple of million for him and I''d have thought that £5m would be enough to grab him (purely guess of course).

What would be your opinion on Mancienne? Personally I think it''s a travesty that he hasn''t been given an England call while people like Joleon Lescott get one after playing reserve team football for a year, and that''s before I mention people like Steven Taylor.

Yeah yeah I know, I''m scouting for the club, better tell McNally, etc etc.... just throwing a name into the ring.

A name that we have already heard is Andros Townsend. People suddenly went cold on him after his betting scandal but he did the business on the pitch for QPR last season, would also love to see this lad competing for our left wing spot, especially as with his stock down, surely the potential for a real bargain there? Both of these players fit the mould of being relatively young with scope for improvement.

Townsend made a mistake but he wouldn''t be the only Norwich player to like a flutter should he arrive.

What do other think about Mancienne and Townsend?

Decent first post!

Can''t say I''ve ever seen Mancienne play. So I''ll have to take your word on him.

Wouldn''t mind Townsend here to be fair. Got a hell of a shot on him

No that was the season before. Bassong played with Roger Johnson (terrible footballer).

Mancienne played at Wolves when they were decent, his departure probably played a part in their decline.

There was a really god interview with him in either the Indy or Guardian a month or so back. Sounded as if he was pretty happy in Germany and was hoping to play more of a part for Hamburg next season after suffering a couple of injuries this year. He''s a very decent footballer I think.

He is indeed a good footballer, he is more of a Bassong than a Turner.

I always feel that Turner is interchangeable with Ryan Bennett, similar types of no-nonsense centre half. When we lose Bassong however the same cannot be said, we don''t have another Bassong.

Bassong however has that composure and ability with the ball at his feet to dictate play a little and get involved with the possession game. Mancienne would in my opinion be an excellent alternative to Bassong.

If we want to seriously progress as a club then we need to start thinking about cup runs, and that can mean 50+ games a year. There is room for four good centre backs in any Premier League squad.

Mancienne also has pace in abundance, just the player that we would need to stop somebody like Suarez scoring his usual bi-annual hat-trick against Norwich.
Oh yes mancienne

Could be worth a go played with bassong at wolves didn''t he?
The center backpairing that got relgated....Yeah sounds brilliant! Seb Bassong isa quality player, but I''ve never understood the hype around MM. If he was that good, he''d be in the PL and fighting for an England place at his age

Perhaps it would help if you read a thread in its entirety ryanncfc, for I''ve already clarified that Mancienne did not play for Wolves in their relegation season.

Bassong played for a few months in a team which was already as good as relegated alongside Roger Johnson, who is about as good as Gary Doherty and will be playing in League One next season.

As for your comment "if he was that good, he''d be in the PL and fighting for an England place at his age", then that is exactly the type of ignoramous moronic mongoloid comment which pretty much sums up why our national football team is in such a state.

More English players should go and play in places like Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, instead of accepting £30k a week to play reserve team football on the basis that we have a backwards Football Association which picks the team for puppet managers on reputation and not on ability.

Europe is a continent, made up of numerous countries, with several world class national teams, several quality football leagues, and contrary to popular belief it is not just a series of Ryanair destinations which exist solely for stag parties.

Quite how people can question the quality of the German league after events last season is beyond me, come out of your cave and get with the times - the Germans are set for a period of football domination and the Barcelona manager has said that himself.

Is that what Bassong has and does?

I think his languid style leads people to think he''s really good on the ball but I don''t think he offers much more (if anything) than the other centrebacks. His use of the ball and distribution isn''t anything special.

As for Mancienne, I think he''s decent and good on him for going over to Germany and getting out of his comfort zone but I don''t think he''s someone who would particularly improve our first team. Although he would be a good player to have in the squad.

I think he''d be far too settled in Germany to come back and be 3rd choice at Norwich. Also, £5m seems like too much for a position we aren''t in particular need of strengthening.

For the right team, he''d be a cracking buy at £5m though and were Turner to go/ lose form, i''d like to see Mancienne here.
