We live in exciting times, awaiting the arrival of a number of players, some at least international players and, we hope all offering improvement on what we have.

 

 But there is a risk in signing so many in a short time.

The risk is not that some may fail, or be awkward and unsettle the side. The risk is that we could lose the "playing for each other" attitude introduced by Lambert and continued by CH. In some games where we lacked skill or pace on man-to-man comparisons, we managed to prevail because of sheer commitment to the team even when players were approaching exhaustion. The converse was true, - we lost or did poorly because some or all did not turn up.

 

If we sign five or six players, especially coming from abroad, it may take some time to get to know everybody and the way they play. More, it will perhaps be difficult to continue the "esprit de corps", especially if one or two turn out to be prima donnas and unsettle the team. And time is not on our side. We need to get a flying start, and reach 40 points soon, because the run-in next May.

 

I think that CH can do it, but he will need support from all the squad. Failure could make us QPR mark II, - plenty of expensive players, but no performance. Heaven forbid!

 

So if we don''t sign our favourite targets, or if we sell players we think we shouldn''t, we still need to get behind and support every member of the squad, and behind the manager.

I think relying on just the spirit will only get you so far. You need to add in quality if you want to be a top 10 side.

We do, but there will always be a few of  our supporters who will jump on the players and manager at the slightest setback.  There always seem to be the need for a scapegoat, or someone to blame.   Unfortunately, the objectors often seem to have a louder voice, but not because  there are a lot of them, but because they make the most "noise".    Its up to the rest of us to drown them out!   [:)]
