RvW - to join the "van" successes?

Recommended Posts

With our acquisition of Ricky van Wolfswinkel, got me thinking about the successful "van''s" in the PL - in particular with the initial R:

Ruud van Nistlerooy - (Man Utd)

Robin van Persie - (Arsenal & Man Utd)

Rafael van der Vaart - (Spurs)

Of the non "R" variety, there was:

Edwin van der Sar (Man Utd)

Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Arsenal)

Anyone think of any others?

Interesting that the predominant successes have been at Arsenal & Man Utd - hopefully RvW will join this exalted list with Norwich!

I''m sure there were some not so successful Dutch players - but I can''t think of any "van''s" amongst them - certainly not during the PL era.

The catering van outside the Barclay on matchdays has done a roaring trade since we''ve been in the premiership :-)

Pierre Van Hooijdonk scored 36 goals in 71 games for Forest. Better than a 1 in 2 strike rate. If that''s not success then I''m glad you''re not my boss!

I don''t think he was a success - wasn''t his "strike" rate at Forest "play 1 game, go on strike the next"? He infamously went on strike refusing to play for them for a considerable period. In fact, when he returned to play and scored a goal, all the players went to celebrate the goal - with the guy who had passed the ball to him!

Also, much of his goal scoring strike rate was after Forest got relegated from the PL.

He wasn''t successful in the Premiership though was he which was the main point of the article? He was brilliant in the championship that''s where all his goals for Forest came from but he got relegated twice with the same team and only scored 7 in the those two seasons. Forest fans and players didn''t like him either as he went on strike. So I still don''t think he was success far from it.

Dennis was a legend in his time here.

Rafael van der Vaart at Spurs did OK. And I love the music to Van der Valk (the Simon something or other orchestra).

I''m also looking for great things this season from Anthony van Pilkington.

Very disturbing, RtB. No, I''m still getting used to my S3 and its word selection process.

.

Was there really a player named van Huge Donk? Sounds like a porno actor stage name.
