Mark .Y. 375 Posted May 24, 2005 Is it any wonder this guy is building himself a great reputation, whilst most clubs (us included of course) are dithering and talking about how nothing will get done until July etc etc (yawn yawn) this bloke is out there sorting things out now, before other clubs get in on his targets.Deserves much success which I''m sure he''ll get (maybe as manager of Man U one day). DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted May 24, 2005 For some reason I read "Chris Moyles" instead of "David Moyes" in your thread title Mark!! Had to read your thread a couple of times before it made sense! Anyway, I am in 100% agreement. I think we should take a leaf out of the Moyes and, dare I say, Warnock book. Why not pay the extra few K and get the players in early, let them settle in, meet the lads properly, move to Norwich, go on tour etc. It''s a price worth paying IMO
3pmkickoff 0 Posted May 24, 2005 No one is dithering, the simple fact is that everybody has now gone on holiday

Mark .Y. 375 Posted May 25, 2005 "No one is dithering, the simple fact is that everybody has now gone on holiday" But has everybody gone on holiday ? I live down in Fareham, just by Pompey, and according to the local evening news the Pompey chairman is already talking to various clubs about their targets (the most well known being Crouchy and Mikael Forsell), Moyes is moving for his, Warnock has already bought Ifill. I am not saying that we would be in for any of those players myself but it shows to me that you can get on and do business for maybe three weeks and then have your holiday. Mark .Y. Thirsty Lizard 3,215 Posted May 25, 2005 I totally disagree Mark Y! The reason Moyes can go out and buy players now is because he''s still got nearly all of the £20 million left from the sale of Rooney plus the £10 million they will get from being in the Champs League. If you''d said Moyes was a top man for getting Everton into the top 4 this season I would agree with you, but I don''t think he''s a top man just because he''s spending some money. As for us we''ll have a limited amount of money to spend (unless we sell Greeno, Damien or someone else). Oh and Moyes record at spending money is pretty patchy if you think about it. Who would you sooner have - James Beattie for £6.5 million or Deano for £3 million? Yesterday MM said he was prepared to break the bank for Crouch and Forrsell. Hopefully we''re looking but just doing it on the sly
Mark .Y. 375 Posted May 25, 2005 Mr Rosario (I assume you are not Robert, the tall striker I remember from some years ago !!), it isn''t a matter of how much he has to spend - it is the fact that he is getting on with it now instead of "going on holiday" like everybody else. I suspect Beattie will turn the corner up there, but I understand he was getting stick from the crowd and needs to knuckle down. He is a bit of a flash git, I know a couple of women he tried to chat up when he was out on the town at So''ton and they told me he was full of the old "I''m a Premiership footballer you know etc etc".Anyway, that''s off the point. Moyes may well make the odd bad buy (like any manager) but I''m sure that other Prem clubs would have been hoping to talk to Parker and I''m just impressed that Moyes has decided to get right on with it and try and get his target(s) before others wake up to it.Ditto Colin of Sheffield United unfortunately.DDIM, I actually live in Portchester and work over in the ESSO refinery at Fawley (So''ton) - my son is a Pompey season ticket holder so if only City had stayed up it would have been a perfect year !!Mark .Y. Mark .Y. 375 Posted May 25, 2005 "Who would you sooner have - James Beattie for £6.5 million or Deano for £3 million?"Oops, nearly forgot to answer that one............but no competition in my opinion so don''t really have to do I .....................Mark .Y. Thirsty Lizard 3,215 Posted May 26, 2005 Mark Y. no I''m not the lanky striker of Norwich City legend, but according to someone (who probably needed his eyes tested) I used to look like him so hence the name.Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that it seems a bit unfair to me to be having a go at Worthy for not getting on and spending money when its not clear that he actually has any to spend. The Board have said he has definitely got any money from player sales and savings in wages which is great, but until that happens he might not have the cash to flash. In any case its been the case in the past that Worthy and the club have gone about it all quietly and then surprised us with a sudden press conference - which to my mind is a better way of doing things than shouting your mouth off in the press about who you are interested in and alerting any any other clubs who might want to hijack your deal. The reason why I mentioned Deano is because we weren''t slow off the mark in signing him - and we know that quite a few other clubs were interested in getting him. Mark .Y. 375 Posted May 26, 2005 Well, I am hopeful that we will be doing things in "stealth mode" and I wasn''t particularly having a go at our manager/board as many others are also off on their holidays. I just think that some clubs get on with things first and then holiday second which seems to me the best way to do things. Although we are not competing with Everton for players it does seem likely to me that any player we are going to try and sign should be of such quality that other clubs will want them too. I just think that we should be trying to talk to them first, get them to Colney etc and "wrap a deal up" before others jump in.By the way, I am absolutely convince that NW will have money to spend over and above any transfer money coming in. Saint Canary 0 Posted May 27, 2005 I disagree that Worthy does not know how much money he has. This years budget was done last year and other than the variable of incoming transfer fees he should know what he''s got. He should also know who he wants to sign.I understand the point that he does not want to rush in to anything but with the transfer deadline/window rules now in place for the Championship, he can not hang around. IMO the Doc was a bit of panic buy last year as Worthy felt he needed someone and it appears to me that Worthy doesn''t actually rate the Doc too highly anyway. He was quick enough to release 4 players and put one on the transfer list. So he should know what he''s got and what he wants but I can understand why he is waiting for the season domestically and internationaly to be over. Saying that he does need to start putting the wheels in motion soon. The closer it gets to transfer deadline day, the more money the selling club will want for a player.
