Green hints at going!!.

Recommended Posts

Before you all jump in and say rumour!, this is on the EDP back page this morning!.

Fair made me and Igor (my mad man servant) choke on our toast it did.

He mentioned this at a charity golf thingy yesterday.

Damn and double damn!, who do you think is favourite to sign him?.

Still, I would expect £5 million at least. At least we might get a keeper in who more dominant at corners now!.

That was sour grapes by the way folks!.

Read this week that Everton want him for 4 million plus Richard Wright in player/cash deal.  I say 6 million on it''s own, we have enough goalkeeper cover.

Quite right.  What do we want Wright for?

When Malcolm Webster was coaching Wright and Marshall, he also coached Green and said of the 3 he was the best prospect.  Not a bad judgement.

If Green goes, good luck to him.  England''s future No.1.

He has been a good servant to the club and could have gone 2 years ago.

Can''t see £6m for him though.  But £3m will go a long way towards strengthening the squad next year.

All the best Greeno!!!!!!!!!!

I think it seems inevitable, especially when he tours
this summer with england. I would say take the
money if he insists on going, as we have to be fair and give the other two
keepers a try who have waited patiently.

If we need to invest in january young stuart taylor of arsenal could be a good pickup,
he''s already well down the line there and with
given rumoured to go there wenger may let him go. he''s got
champions league experience and did very well when
he was in the first team.

good luck to him though he''s been an amazing player
for the club.

im not particularly bothered, provided we obtain a decent transfer fee of course. to my mind a keeper can only do so much if he has a poor back four in front of him, anyway. we have 3 decent keepers at the club if he goes, and hopefully one of them will prove to be a suitable replacement for greeno. if greeno brings in anywhere between 3 to 5 million i shall be happy. worthy would then have a nice little sum of money to add to his transfer kitty.

Let him go if the price is right and buy a couple of defenders.

We don''t want any part exchange deals for another goalie - I think we''ll be ok in that department.

It''s pretty obvious that he wants to go, he''s served us well and if we can get a decent sum then I don''t think we should stand in his way

Green couldn''t possibly hint more strongly at leaving, so it is a dead cert he is off, which is a great shame.  Always on the cards though as in Iwan''s book he stated that Greeno and Francis were the two that didn''t socialise with the Norwich players, preferring to go to London.

Still, should get a few quid for the pair.

Just must not lost Ashton - imagine Ash, Leon and Hucks tearing apart Championship defences - bring it on.

there is just thing with this greeno to move business though - a premiership club has to want him as their number 1. to my mind, most
of the premier clubs are well off for keepers. the only two that spring
to mind who are in need of a better man between the sticks, are man u &
arsenal. would they be interested in greeno? or are they searching the
world for someone with an exotic name and a great reputation at international level football to go with it? having said all that,i think
he will be on his way before the new season starts, but i just cant think
where.

Now, the wiz is a simple old soul, and at the end of the day, if you don''t wish to play for Norwich City FC, then you can s*d off mate!.

Now, before you all go potty at me, remember this, we could well end up having to score against him when we do go back up, so no, I won''t wish him well!.

Many have left City for bigger and better clubs, only to end up regretting it big time!.

The others man''s grass always looks Greeno remember?.

End of spiteful rant.

if green is more worried about being third in line to the england place than ncfc then let him hit the road after all he only helped let in 73 goals this season.

Call me ridiculously optimistic, but think he could probably stay. He won''t go to Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool because they want the finished articles and probably a foriegner, I don''t think Manure would want him, nor guarantee 1st team football. The same applies to Everton, Bolton, Middlesbrough, Man City, Fulham, Tottenham, Brum, Villa, Newcaste, Tottenham and Blackburn. Kiely is old but played all season bar one game when some 23 year Scandanavian prospect got a chance, which leaves West Brom, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Wigan or Preston/West Ham and even then it''s not guaranteed that he won''t be warming the bench. Beyond that Celtic, Rangers or abroad not of which I can imagine Green wanting. Anyone disagree?

well if he wants to go let him sod off i only want players who want the job also he has let in some 73 goals with some help i know but looking at some really should of got to them. Also he has hardly helped his case with the comments about spen and a pinch of salt.his fee will more than help our back line out galliger can do a job if we put some decent defenders in front of him ashton the key if he can again stick them in he alone can take us back up let alone goals from huck and leon i would worrie more if ashton got on his bike and i must agree who going to stick him in goal straight away he could be sitting on many a bench i wonder if a pinch of salt will worrie him then//

I can''t beleive the lack of respect some of you are showing Greeno.  So he let in 73 goals, all his fault were they?  I just can''t understand why some of you are saying if he no longer wants to play for City then he should s*d off.  He has been loyal to us, we should be a bit more grateful.  He at least signed a long contract which means City will get some cold hard cash if he does leave rather than be the latest in a long line of players walking out of the door for sweet fa.

Saint: I ain''t having a go at you mate, I respect you too much for that my friend. But we owe Robert Green zero, nowt, nothing!!.

We trained him, treated him and turned him into the keeper he is today.

This argument was used when Iwan left, when I suggested bringing him back to coach.

Once he leaves he''s the opposition. And I don''t give a flying fig for them or their delicate feelings.

I noticed no ones too upset for Joe Royal on here lately, yes?.

I do understand your point Wiz and when he leaves and we play against him I hope he has a mare but until then he is still a City player and a fine one at that.  I am just taking offence at the posts that are now criticising him (not yours I might say) saying is he as good as we first thought?  It''s not Greeno''s fault that City fan''s have built him up to be something he is not.

You must admit though, he has tried to repay City by ensuring that we get a fee for him.  In recent years our young players with potential like Marshall (Lee & Andy), Kenton and O''Neill have all left for nothing or nominal fees because their contracts were running out or had expired.  Greeno will leave having put a couple of million quid in the NCFC transfer fund and knowing we have plenty of talent in the squad already to replace him.

Greeno  going ?  ..... well , good riddance !    I never did buy into this  theory that the reason he let in  73 goals  was mainly down to  our poor defence ...   all through the season  I`ve seen him flailing  at , and missing , balls that most  goalies in the lower divs would have saved easily !   sorry to prick any bubbles here  , but I  think we will be very lucky to get rid of him  at any price  ....   England class ? don`t make me laugh !

i must agree with wizz on this we payed him looked after him and now cause his numbers up with spen maybe he wants to bugger off. Well let him walk and keep on walking and keep someone else happy.

On a bench even a park bench. onces he walks out of the door he is the one we have to stick them past . we have a good keeper in galliger he can do a half decent job with some proper defenders in front of him with greenos money

and ashton will not go he owes us if we stay down let him go next year if he wants

Paul, you are an angry young man aren''t you?  How have you survived all the stress and frustration of being a Norwich fan? What does ''on a bench, etc mean''?

I have met Robert Green on quite a few occasions in the last year and he is a decent bloke.  He has been in Norfolk since he was 16 and really appreciates the area and the people. I was at his Golf Day in aid of the Matthew Project last week and he was overwhelmed that a handful of people in our county could raise £15,000 in one day for a local charity.

He is not interested in playing for a big club for the status he justs wants to do and be the best that he can.  Football is a very short career and you only get one chance and it could be argued that you must take every chance that you can.

I can safely say that we would all want to play for England and if the only way he can do this is to leave then so be it.  Who are we to stand in his way - who cool would it be to tell your grand kids about that World Cup penalty save.......

My advice to him would be to stay until Christmas in the manner we are requesting of Deano.  But you have to remember that there are only 20 goalie slots in the premier and if one comes along and he feels that it is in best interests then why should we moan at him.

I believe he would be truly sad to leave here as he is has actually grown up here as a footballer and has many friends here.  If he does go then we should be proud that our club has nurtured someone like him.

If for one will be standing up and cheering when he runs out for England in the next week or so.

Nobby,

Thank you for a balanced response; we owe Robert Green for keeping us in the old 1st Division; for getting to the Play-off Final, for almost getting into the Play-Offs the following year. Our Glorious Championship Season; and almost another season in the Prem; ideally Robert will be a key member of our Championship winning squad this coming season. However, if Robert moves to Arsenal (certain recent considerations being equal) I would not begrudge Greeno this opportunity.

Nobby, that brought a tear to my eye! (not really, but you get my meaning...)

And damn straight too!  Greeno has been immense for us since he became our number 1 (better than Gunny? now there''s an interesting debate to take our minds of silly transfer rumours... hmm...), and he fully deserves the chance to play at the highest level!  If he runs out for England, it will be the proudest moment of his career, possibly more so for him than winning div 1, and who can begrudge him that?!

You guys moaning about him - in the unlikely event that you were in line for an England spot, but this was made less likely by the league status of the club you were with, and then someone like, say, Spurs came for you (after selling Robinson to ManUre of course!), what would you do? Stay because your current team "nurtured you", and potentially miss out on playing for your country and against some of the best teams in Europe, simply out of loyalty?!? No, I don''t think you would... I wouldn''t!!!

Greeno deserves all the praise and all the hype, and any big club offering 4mil+ for him is probably going to get him... and I, for one, will be patting him on the back as he walks out of the door, thanking him for some fantastic years of service, and cheering him when he next visits Carrow Road between the opposition''s sticks...

Like every other Canary on this board, I''d be gutted to see Greeno leave the club. I certainly won''t disrespect him or wish him bad luck though. Not many players stay with a club that nurtured them since they were a schoolboy these days. As has been stated before, you only get a handful of years as a footballer to prove yourself and opportunities for goalkeepers to move on don''t come as frequently as other positions on the pitch. If Greeno''s England squad place can be cemented by staying in the Premiership (remember he currently tends to make way when Chris Kirkland is fit) then I can''t begrudge him taking that opportunity. I can''t see him improving as a goalkeeper (to the level required to cement an international place) by playing against Championship strikers week in and week out. He needs to be competing against, and training with, international-quality strikers all the time if he aspires to the England No 1 spot. He could have sought to leave the club well before now but has given us nearly half of his career.

I would love to see him stay until the transfer window to see how things pan out, but I fear if he pulls on that England shirt this summer the lure will be too great and I, for one, will wish him all the best. I don''t think we have the quality to replace him, but the money could be used to compensate elsewhere. I desperately hope he stays, but won''t begrudge him if/when he chooses to move on.

Greeno is a top bloke and a quality keeper - I feel it is certain he will go if the right opportunity comes along and wouldn''t blame him.

BUT who''s going to come in for him - not Chelsea, ManUre etc - they won''t gamble on him.

Next level of teams down have decent keepers, maybe with exception of Everton who need replacement for Martyn at some stage.

Can''t see him going to a Wigan or Portsmouth.

Who knows, maybe he will be back in the Prem in a year''s time, with Lotus on his shirt...

Jason:  You use an old arguement which is seriously flawed my friend.

Of course most of us will never be chosen to play for our club, let alone our country. So it is impossible for us to make an honest decision on what we would do in Greeno''s place.

The basic fact is this. Greeno will not play again for City in a competitive match (Wizards prediction) so it follows that we should have little concern for a non Norwich player, or one who wishes to be a non Norwich player!.

He was no doubt paid well to do his job, and he did that to his best ability (as he should) but like everyone else, he will be replaced, and just as easily, will be forgotten!.

It has to be said here , a goalkeeper who lets in 73 goals  in a season  !!!!!!!!   is NOT  going to command  any interest  from a prem club !  I just can`t see  it happening ...

That''s right just as easily forgotten as all those other players who have played significant parts in our history.

Who will ever forget John Polston and his goal against Villa in 1993 in tha same week his child was born, our Andy Johnson for his goals away at Middlesborough or Ekoku as the first ever European goalscorer or Jamie Cureton and his green haired goal at Portman Road.

He probably does still want to be a Norwich player but he wants to and needs to play at the highest level he can.

I don''t particularly care what happens to Kenton or Marshall but I do care what happens to Chris Sutton or Steeno.

Be all that you can be.........or stay in a comfort zone and then regret things for the rest of your life.
