Howton the draw specialist

Recommended Posts

Just noticed that NCFC under Chas Howton the supposed draw specialist managed to finish the season with a run of six games without a draw. This is currently the Premier Leagues joint longest drawless run (the other team who also hadn''t drawn in their last six games managed to lose five of them (Fulham)).Childish but what the hell..........[:P]

Confidence is a factor that is so key to football and it is easy to forget that with the manager is key. Lambert for all his faults had bags of it always gutted to lose a match against anyone.

Houghton needs to believe in his team , too often for me he has not and that was reflected in negative tactics. The team he has as they showed against man city love going forward but as the second man city will get caught out.

Howson is a typical example as is Holt of players who have suffered from too much negative play

Houghton needs to start believing his team are a match for anyone in this league, his post match interviews were always so depressing always talking up skills of other team which helped neither the fans or i am sure the team to feel good

We did not score enough goals.  CH pointed out that in 22 games we drew or lost by one goal. In some of them the difference could be attributed to referee error, but the manager clearly thinks that our lack of fire power turned what could have been a very good season into merely a good season. If in a quarter of those games, say 5, we had scored one more goal we would have achieved a minimum of 5 more points and a maximum of 15 more.

We didn''t, but he clearly feels that with a little more goal power we could achieve a lot more. He suggested this on several occasions, and we now know that during the winter he tried, but failed, to sign RvW.

I am suggesting that if he was defensively minded it was because we saw that we had a leaky defence - in came Bassong, Turner, Garrido and Tettey, and ten clean sheets was the result! I think that he now has plans and money to make the central midfield more creative, and to add fire power. All this without weakening the defence, indeed I''m sure he will make every effort to recruit a good LB.

We did draw a lot of games, but rather than condemn or criticise the manager for that we ought to congratulate him on avoiding the drop, and at the same time look forward to what he could achieve next season with improvements he has in mind.

Hooton clearly goes into every game wanting a draw and the last 6 games show he isn''t even capable of that. Man City tried every thing to help Hooton, equalising twice, but he just didn''t have the man management skills to shackle Howson and secure the much needed draw.

HOOTON OUT!!!
