The main speculation seems to be linking this very talented young lad with a move to Chelsea. Norwich cannot compete in terms of transfer fee or wages but will it come to that. There is a lot of speculation that we have been tracking him for a few months with £8m fee being mentioned. We can do that sort of figure now as RVW has shown. The lad is 20 and in interviews in Holland says he needs to move to improve his chances of getting in the Dutch squad. At Chelsea initially he will be a victor moses bits and pieces type player or even go out on loan like Lukaku. Norwich would give him a EPL platform to get noticed and no doubt eventually move on to bigger and better things. So then despite the media Chelsea hype, short term we may be a better bet and he no doubt knows RVW who has probably come here for the same reasons

Are people generally happy with the idea of the club selling themselves and the prospect of a move here to players like RVW on the grounds that we are, or can be, a "stepping stone" for them?

 

It benefits both of course irf it works out. If RVW gets 25 goals next season and we finish 8th on the back of it, we''ll be fighting bigger clubs off with as pointed stick this time next year-but if it meant he got his move to a CL club and we got £18 million''ish, then its a commercial success on the back of a footballing one-but would we be happy to see him up and go under those circumstances?

 

It would, of course, make players of his ilk likely to want to come here and could be a very successful way of doing football business for us-a finishing school almost. Yet when we did it with the likes of Bellers and Chris Sutton there was near mutiny in some quarters. Is that way of doing things more acceptable now or are people more ''sussed'' in terms of footballing economics?

What was the thing that stopped Lukaku going out on loan a couple of seasons back? There was some rule that stopped it, maybe it was the whole ''not allowed to be registered to more than 2 clubs in a year'' thing.

Yes, I love the idea of us being a stepping stone club.

Most clubs are including Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham.

The concept, we buy promising players, develop them and move up the ladder and then we have more clubs to buy from...

The most successful era''s for Norwich were built on us being a stepping stone club..

When it stopped and we started buying old players (under Doomcaster) and loanee''s.

We started going backwards considerably.

nearly every signing under Lambert, the young and hungry model is... if they prove themselves and develop, they can progress to the next level.

The main difference being that as a stepping stone club with our own players we reap the rewards for giving them exposure, developing them and controlling their futures as opposed to West Brom last season who were a stepping stone club for Lukaku.

They developed him, gave him exposure, greatly increased his value and will receive no reward for that at all ..... in fact they paid for the privilege.
