Good article. Along similar lines is how they''re trying to change things in Scottish football by looking at the German and Dutch youth systems - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17250730.

im not sure how mr hughton can take any credit for the ''english core'' at the club given that he inherited 99% of it

he signed two Scotsman, a Frenchman, Spaniard, Ghanaian and Argentinian!

Who did Hughton sign who was Ghanaian?
You''''re also missing his other two signings: Turner and Butterfield who just happen to be English.

Its nice to get a bit of credit for how we''re doing things. I take pride in the fact our club does things in the right way in this cutthroat football world.

Hmmm.

Bunn, Ruddy, Camp is English, just chose to play for another international team due to not really having a chance with England.

Martin (as Camp), Turner, R.Bennett, Barnett, Tierney.

E.Bennett, Fox, Johnson, Howson and Pilkington.

Holt, Morison (although he left)

Plus Surman, C.Martin and Rudd.

Garrido, Tettey, Becchio, Snodgrass, Whitaker, Bassong, Jackson, Kamara, Hoolahan being the imports from outside of England in terms of their actual country of birth etc.

Yup.

Actually having read the article it doesn''t really praise us or suggest our way should be held up as the best. Just that we had/used the most amount of players who qualify to play for England in the premier league. The fact is we have already lost Morison and Tierney.

Also the reality is much starker.

The real issue isn''t even that big clubs are signing foreign stars to play for their first teams. The reality is that a lot of established premier league clubs are signing foreign youth players too.

Look at how many of the Chelsea under 18''s were British.

The football league has been predicting this for years, the Premier League hasn''t listened and new rules have made this worse not better.

The homegrown rule encourages promising young foreign players to be signed up at a young age so they qualify. In the way that should Fabregas and Ronaldo return they will be classed as home grown.
