Norwich City are looking to pip Fulham to the signature of Wolves winger Bakary Sako and will match their £4m asking price for the player.

Most likely get shot down for this but........whilst it would be lovely to strengthen all areas of the side.....do we really need to be chucking cash at wingers?!Pilks & Snodgrass have proven themselves.  Bennet and Surman are reasonable back-ups.  Central midfield is the obvious area that needs attention.  If we end up signing Bako, is he an option/squad player/starter??Howson showed signs of the level required towards the end of the season but its a huge ask to hope he can do that consistently week in, week out for the season.  Johnson has improved greatly but if we really want to push up into the top half of the table we need a far more cultured DM.  A quality DM or CM is going to cost a hell of a lot and bar CF is probably the most sought after position for all sides!  Bit strange to see us chasing areas of the side that arguably have more quality than our central midfield.Then again who knows....perhaps we have a 10Million central midfielder on the way.....after all, i never ever imagined that City would spend over 5 on a player :O

I doubt whether Sako is a target, but as many were urging CH to sign Redmond if CH has been rebuffed at Birmingham, then Sako could be a (cheaper) alternative.

 

I think that at the moment with three specialist wingers in Snoddy, Pilks and Benno, with possible substitutes in Surman and Wes, not to mention Martin, Whittaker and Garrido likely to be urged to bomb down the wings, we don''t need another winger at the moment. (It seems that we have made an offer for Tolvonnen. If we eventually sign him we shall have another candidate - he can apparently play central midfield or on the wing!.)

 

I would prefer to use our resources to sign a play maker CM and a LB of some ability, rather than a winger.

Sakary, Redmond and others mentioned (Capel) would offer an alternate wing style to Pilks or Snoddy. We need service to RVW and whoever else CH brings in and sometimes pace would be the better option. Surman, Wes and Bennett are going to be pushed even further down the list and of the three Wes will probably spend a good while on the bench. As for our full backs "bombing down the wings" I don''t see CH reversing his whole defensive strategy this season. And why buy a player (Toivonen) then play him where he is least effective?

I disagree with the first part of this and agree totally with the second part. I do think we need another winger, preferably a left footed pacey left winger. Someone who can beat their man and put a cross in. This will give us an option as we are too slow and predictable at times. Not having seen that much I doubt Bakary Sako is the player we are looking for, he''s just been in a team relegated from the championship.

 

As for the centre of midfield well I do think this is somewhere we need to improve.

Still rather have Capel or Redmond though, but I think Sako could make the step up as well as our current wingers have.

Why are these matters always argued as alternatives? "We don''t want a winger we need midfielders" or in January "Why are we signing another keeper when we need a striker?".

 

We are allowed more than one signing. We can have both. Why does signing a winger stop us signing a midfielder or a keeper signing stop us signing a striker?

of course we need wingers. Only Snodgrass is good enough and we need somebody in our team with pace. Personally like Nathan Redmond, but Bakary Sako could be a good capture for £2mil or something.

He''s strong as hell and powerful, but seems a bit lanky on the ball. He''s really tall and sometimes loses control.

Here here! There are always half a dozen identical threads with the same posters arguing over the merits of this or that player. I much prefer it when we have something concrete to discuss - at least on the Toivenen thread it is as a result of a supposed agreement ona fee.
