Rudd to Preston, done.

Recommended Posts

On loan to Preston for a year, as well as signing a one year extension here.

Good business as he''s 22 so would count in the 25 man squad. And hopefully a year of first team football to give him the chance to show his ability and consistency.

I cant see a lad of his talent wanting to be number 3 or even number 2 here for much longer.
Will he ever get a chance to impress at us though?
It depends on what happens at Preston and what also happens with Ruddy.

Always the possibility Bunn may want to move, or one of next seasons promoted clubs want him etc then Rudd could be number two.

What''s the issue? He is still young and will be first choice at PNE where he is getting rave reviews and the fans love him. A full season of first team football is better than not even getting on the bench here.

Good business to me, he wont get anywhere near the first team with Ruddy and Bunn ahead of him but he has potential to be a top player.  Presumably, Steer will now be third choice and being under 21, wont count towards the squad of 25 freeing up a squad place for another position.

Further signs that the club has no intention at all to sell Ruddy. Were it in the back of the mind that they would release him for a big fee, they would have kept hold of Rudd in case of the need to promote him up the order.

BBC Sport seem to have him confused with our no1 though...

"I''ve been at the club since I was eight years old so to get another contract extension is brilliant, I''m really pleased with it," said Ruddy.

Great news. We get some playing time on him and show him at same time we consider him as part of our future.

Very sensible deal all round.Bunn is clearly 2nd choice and if there''s not a lot between Rudd and Steer, then freeing up the squad space whilst getting invaluable experience for Rudd is perfect.Add in the contract extension and this looks like excellent work behind the scenes, and also means we now have more squad space to bring in quality players.Good work by McNally and Co, and good luck to Rudd for his season on loan again at PNE [:)]
