Stowmarket Canary (not Delia)

Is Hughton, Worthington take two?

Recommended Posts

The last time we were relegated from the premier league, Worthington had very negative tactics. Then we were crying out for a striker before the season started but didn''t bring a good one in until too late, ( though at least Ashton was brought in mid season which gave us a chance). So many parallels lets just prey the two seasons don''t end in the same fashion!

No, in fairness to Worthy, at least when he was Manager we use to win occasionally.

Hughton - Sacked by Newcastle                    Birmingham - Achieved f*ck all                             Norwich Sacked

In summary, it''s not his negativity that has got us relegated this season, just Hughton''s overall cr**ness.

Mark Lawrenson said at the beginning of the season that he is a good Coach but not a Manager.  The NCFC Board appear to be the only ones who disagreed.
Even allowing for the usual one-eyed xenophobia some posters have towards Hughton, that is a staggeringly inaccurate portrayal of his managerial career.Newcastle - won the Championship, sacked while in mid-table (and look how well they''ve done since)Birmingham - took a club with no money and a difficult squad to the play-offs against the oddsNorwich - not yet, but clearly you have your fingers crossed...

How on earth can anyone claim Worethy played negative football???

The number of games that year we went in fearing the opposition, if we got a lead trying to sit back and defend it! It wasn''t till Ashton came in that we actually started attacking teams, hence the wins over Man utd etc

Do you understand what negative tactics are? Negative football is concentrating on stopping the other team playing. That would be pretty much impossible with the players Worthy signed. If you are going to criticise him for anything that season it would have to be allowing the other team to play. You could even describe it as take it in turns football only teams like Chelsea would have six turns to our one. I never saw a Worthy team concentrate on trying to stop the opposition play.

He inherited an incredibly strong Newcastle team, that was by far the best team on the Championship that season.  Even if I''d have been their Manager, they would have still been promoted.

I didn''t realize that no getting promoted also counts as an Achievement. If your house was on fire and the fire brigade almost put the fire out, would that also be achievement?
That''s possibly the worst analogy ever written.
