Steve Morison for me.  Lazy, lightweight, couldn''t be arsed 99% of the time.  A decent back up target man/lone striker would have put pressure on Fatboy Holt and forced him to justify his new deal, but with no pressure forthcoming, Holt was allowed to carry on eating Pie and Mash every evening and practice cardio training by walking upstairs to bed every night.  If Morison had been more like Giroud or Lukaku or even Loic Remy, we''d be on 44 points by now.

There are rumours which I will not go into that Morison was a very naughty boy hence his fire sale to Leeds and the acquisition of Becchio as a panic buy to go with the Harry Kane panic loan and the Kei (as seen on TV - only -) panic loan.

Morison''s attitude stank; we gave him his big shot and his body language and effort was appalling this season. Lambert wouldn''t stand for it so he tried it on Hughton who got rid of him.

As for overall blame this season, try the Board and Joint Majority Shareholders. And this is probably a big reason behind Lambert going.

We are debt free, great, but to be debt free we gambled on our EPL future by not giving sufficient funds for team strengthening.

Yes, we had to pay up external debt but was there no way of raising capital otherwise? That would mean a loan from our owners, but they couldn''t or wouldn''t speculate.

Out of this came the compensation saga; Hughton was happy to take the job with financial restrictions and opted to take the defensive approach and the fact is, it might still work.

If we fail we are debt free and solvent with no individuals waiting for their loans back but everyone will wonder just what might have been.

If we succeed the Board will be patting themselves on the back.

The players are pawns in this game; McNally is a black knight and Hughton is a complete Bishop!

Make no mistake the reason Lambert left was that he could see that this season was going to be too hard for him to handle. The writing was on the wall when we lost 8 and drew 3 of the last 14 games last season. For a moment think of the players we would have had for our campaign if Hughton had not acquired Bunn, Whittaker, Bassong, Garrido, Turner and Tettey, Two from Ayala, Ward at Bennett at centre back?

Lambert wasted millions on ineffective signings and knew that we were punching way above our weight, something that other managers in the Premiership had sussed out for the last 30% of the season.

Why else have we been talking about surviving all this season when a new manager comes in to a twelfth position Premiership club if we didn''t all believe that our squad wasn''t good enough?

Scapecoat of the season? The man who would have crawled to Villa to take over a squad of at least 15 internationals and leave a club with few Premiership players that he had assembled.

Interesting posts from Rudolph and Yellow Wall. They have the answer somewhere. Rudolph''s is uncomfortable and Yellow Wall''s denies many the pound of flesh they need.

We''d have been safe ages ago if we had Ruddy all season. These things happen unfortunately, but for me he has been the biggest loss for us and one of the biggest reasons for our downfall. There''s plenty of things that happened or should have been done, poor decisions etc etc, but the players have to dig deep and find something to get them over the line..this is it now

oddly and perhaps uniquely for a side on the verge of relegation.......I havent heard any criticism from the fans for any players..home or away.

one can only deduce that the majority believe that the fault lies with the man who is deploying them to play in the way that they are?....there''s your scapegoat.

[/quote]We were more or less safe from the victory against Wolves with 8 games to play.  As Swansea are showing (no win in 6 games since hitting 40 points and safety), when you have nothing to play for, results can suffer.  Lambert left because a bigger club came calling.  The whole end of season thing is a load of sour grapes against a manager who easily kept us up last season. We were NEVER in trouble. He has now gone to Villa, and done exactly what he did at norwich, slowly turned them around.  They have improved as the season has progressed and I would not be surprised if they start moving up the table next season. We always knew this season was about survival, because every season is going to be about survival.

Negative tactics, negative team selections, misuse of the squad, negative attitude in games, and a play for draws master-plan.

Add to that a 10 game unbeaten run, with a First XI which Ruddy aside due to injury, we have not seen since.

As opposed to the simple and likelier explanation, which is that Lambert wanted to manage a bigger and historically more significant club even if it meant risking relegation in the short term, given the respective league positions at the end of last season?

Although we managed a few results with Bunn in goal, we let in nine goals in five games (including League Cup) -average 1.8 per game- in the unbeaten  run when Bunn took charge between the sticks, compared to seven goals in six games -average 1.12- when Ruddy was in goal. Ruddy''s better average would have seen 1-0 losses and 1-1 draws translate into many more points and kept the confidence up.

I also think playing Grant Holt was sometimes like starting a game with ten men

Snodgrass was a good purchase .......... was he?

Or was he like other ''good buys made by our previous manager?

Other than Ruddy and Martin (both of whom attracted major criticism when they signed) who else did Lambert bring to the squad who were ''good buys''?

Ayala?, Butterworth? Vaughan? Ryan Bennett? Tierney? Jackson? He brought in a lot of average players, not Premiership players and few have stepped up.

You have to keep in mind that after back to back promotions the squad needed major surgery in both summers. Lambert never had the luxury of building a squad here. Because he had to bring in 8+ players in each window he had to cut his cloth accordingly. He certainly never had £8m to spend on one player. Contrast this with Swansea who built the squad they got promoted with over 4 seasons.

I feel that Snodgrass has been one of the better players this season but I would look closer at his contribution. The fact he has been one of the better players is an indictment on the other midfield players we have.

He is not blessed with good pace, he gets very few good crosses in during open play, he slows attacks down because of his lack of pace and many of his free kicks (especially recently) are fruitless.

He does work hard and wins a lot of free kicks. He is far from the worst player we have!

We have a good Championship squad, not a Premiership squad. When Wolves were relegated they sold two of their players for in excess of £20M.

Two questions -

a) How many of our players would supporters of other Premiership clubs want playing for them?

b) How many of our players are even known by many followers of other clubs? (How many Reading players come easily to mind?)

Mr Brownstone - Let us not forget Swansea were also fortunate to get £6M for Scott Sinclair from Manchester City and very fortunate to get £15M from Liverpool for Joe Allen.

Yes Michu was a good buy at £2M but he was one of many new recruits which were enabled by Liverpool and Manchester City paying more than £20M for two of their players.

Chico Flores £2M, Kyle Bartley £1M, Ki Sung-Yueng £5.5M, Pablo Hernández £5.5M although useful have not been as outstanding or as effective.

Nah its got to be Paul Lambert. If he hadnt left we would be in Europe having beaten Villa in the quater final, which was interely his fault we lost and then gone on to effortlessly win the final. We would be safe and scored at least 3 goals in every game, it wouldnt have mattered about our leaky defence. So up yours Paul Lambert, its entirely your fault as we definetly know exactly what would have happened if he had stayed and for that exact reason we know for certain we would be fine, so exatly for that reason its all his fault. LAMBERT OUT.. oh urm. LAMBERT  IN.... then OUT!
