SYG 0 Posted May 7, 2013 Everything I see and hear recently people have been going on about them surviving, basically willing them to stay up again! This happens year after year, I just want to know what''s so special about them? They have hardly been good enough for years, it''s about time they go down... Row D Seat 7 0 Posted May 7, 2013 That''s the thing. They have been good enough for years. 8 years in fact. Soon to be 9 years if we are not careful.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted May 7, 2013 I totally accept that the table does not lie. Buti do admire their approach WBA away a good example they go behind twice but still attack enough to score 3 goals away from home and win. We go behind at stoke with 44 minutes still to go and cannot muster a shot on goal. I we stay up, possibly at their expense but our approach must never be like this ever again
R_S 0 Posted May 7, 2013 they have a manager who knows how to motivate his players and get them to score goals/play without fearthey score 2 we score 3. They keep going for the win for 90 minutesthey dont score and then retreat to try and hold on for it (which is what city do)
It's Character Forming 1,160 Posted May 7, 2013 It''s weird why they start every season so badly and come good at the end. Last season they won 5 out of their last 6. Why couldn''t they start with a decent run instead of being back in the drop zone this season again, but still have a chance of getting out at the end ? If Martinez was such a great manager you''d think he would motivate them to play without fear before Christmas !

killiecanary 0 Posted May 7, 2013 ''I 100% agree with this. Just makes me think we don''t even deserve to stay in this league.''Sorry don''t buy this.If three teams finish below us we deserve to say in this league. If Stoke, with their brand of football, finish anywhere above 18th, even they deserve to stay in this league.I don''t ever want to see us scrambling for a draw again the way we have set up this season, and if we don''t get enough points by doing that then Hughton will have failed and we will deserve to be relegated if we finish in 18th spot. But there are no bonus points for attacking / technical merit...this isn''t rugby! If we get to 41 points and we stay up then we will have done so on merit.

BOO 0 Posted May 7, 2013 Martinez is a great manager, his media profile is excellent, he did a great job at Swansea, and keeping a club like Wigan up for so long, with a cup final thrown in is remarkable. How I would love him here to replace our dipstick!
JayNCFC 14 Posted May 7, 2013 They pass the ball and move forward, striking the ball towards the goal in something I believe is called "shooting" (sp?)Everyone loves them because they are a bit of good value at the end of the season, as they are demonstrating once again at our cost. GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,735 Posted May 7, 2013 Coventry used to do this every year in the 80''s and 90''s, survive by the skin of teeth....but like them one day it will catch up with Wigan.........and like them they will drop down the leagues when it does. If they can play this way at the end of the season then they are coasting to start with.Weird as it may sound, I''d rather watch our players busting a gut all season even if we are the worst team to ever play in the prem.Which we aren''t.Not even the worst this season, no matter how much you want it to be true. Branston Pickle 3,633 Posted May 7, 2013 People seem surprised that Wigan have decent players, but they have been in the PL for nearly ten years, with all that money, so damn well should have brought in some decent players in that time. It makes it all the more weird/bemusing that they only ever start playing in the second half of the season, and does rather leave me questioning how good Martinez really is if he can only get them motivated when all seems lost. Fraz 2 Posted May 7, 2013 I think its because they attract unknown players from abroad by offering themselves as a springboard to get them into the premier league with the promise they can leave if other premier league clubs come in for them.that''s how they work it and as new players coming into the premier league, it takes them time to get used to the league hence the poor start to the season and the strong finish. Really? That''s your conclusion? They were going to finish above us weren''t they CUSDP? Bet you''re gutted Wigan lost.
can u sit down please 0 Posted May 8, 2013 That''s it warren detract from the fact I stated of our run and begin the name calling. That''s what happens on here isn''t it?Yes. Villa were always going to finish above us. It was obvious from the outset. My prediction on qpr surviving, hands up was wide. But there form under HR isn''t too dissimilar to hughtons in the same period. For the record I don''t think Redknapp is a nice guy. Your blinkered view that all is well at Carra is completely deluded and the view that Hughton will take us places is crazy. Oh and on the jock, it seems wrong to remember anything he did for us and now with villa clearly being better than us, some people are losing their arguments. Oh and on the jock, it seems wrong to remember anything he did for us and now with villa clearly being better than us, some people are losing their arguments.[/quote] Name calling? Where is that exactly? Have Villa finished above us yet? Because if the season is over, we''re safe and hallelujah. My blinkered view has more relevance than your eyes wide shut view that Paul Lambert was/is the messiah and that all would be well if we still had him. I''m not forgetting anything that the Jock did for us pal, the point is that it is all in the past - get over it. Villa are CLEARLY better than us, currently by 2 points after 36 games. Not that clear then, and this is the first time they''ve been above us since....? Fact is that Lambert has underperformed at Villa on a far larger scale than Hughton has here. Your solution is the untried Poyet, he might be worth a gamble but given your QPR prediction, I wouldn''t be expecting miracles!! For the record, I don''t think Redknapp is a nice guy either, I think he is an over-rated crook who has spent irresponsibly everywhere he has been, and, Spurs excepted, has left a trail of destruction behind him. But he is still in with a shout of finishing last.... Let''s be honest, you don''t like Hughton - that''s fair enough, but exaggerating and making things up to further discredit him is unnecessary and akin to playground propaganda. He has improved the squad, he''ll probably keep us up, therefore he''ll probably meet his brief. The problem is, that improvement isn''t mutually exclusive to us. The other teams improve too. As I tried to explain in a thread I started a while back, you can improve in this league and go backwards, if you stand still/go with what you''ve got, you''ll get relegated. If we stay up, (even I''m saying if now..) we''ll have got away with a massive gamble, that being that we haven''t bought a striker since we''ve been promoted. We''ve not improved the front line. The shadow of Worthington/Ashton has been looming large for me recently - and before people mention Kamara and Becchio - a loan player and a part exchange for the much maligned Steve Morison are not what I''m talking about. All those years ago we left it too late with Ashton, this January''s shenanigans with Hooper and RVW and getting neither.....well, it all seemed a bit similar. I''ll stick up for Holt here too, he has taken no end of stick this season but he is still the best option we have. You can''t blame him for that. Looking forward, I''m 100% sure that Hughton knows we need to improve going forward, you can level many things at him but he isn''t stupid. Survival and money to spend is a start. What the club has to decide is: Who is best to spend that money? Hughton or someone else? Given his record with transfers so far, I''d give Hughton the opportunity and see how we set up next season. You probably wouldn''t. I wouldn''t like to say what the club will do. What the fans need to remember is that improvement isn''t exclusive to us, other teams improve too, the more money they have to spend, the better chance they have of improving more. We''ll have more money next season. But so will everybody else. Thinking that this windfall will suddenly transform us into a top half side is probably misguided. It could do just that but for it to happen we''ll need to spend big and well and plenty of those above us will have to spend small or bad.
Murphy and the Bricks 0 Posted May 8, 2013 Luton, Coventry & Wimbledon done similar thing for years & look where they all are now...Wigan will eventually go down & think they will go into freefall. For some reason people like Wigan because they give entertainment at the end of the season people want to see little Wigan survive again, just like they used to Luton & Wimbledon....its the under dog thing.
