Thank you Chris Hughton

Coming in and following one of our most successful manages of all time was always going to be tough.

Overcoming Second Season Syndrome was always going to be tough.

Turning the team around after losing the first game 5-0 and not getting a win in the first 7 games was always going to be tough.

Having to manage in the season when we had no choice but to pay back £10 million of debt was always going to be tough - especially when all the other teams in the division had far greater resources than us.

Success for us this season was staying up.

Thank you Chris.

We were one of the weakest squads in the prem, but ground our way to safety.  The people who thought we had some god given right to finish above teams like Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle with their far larger fan bases and deeper wallets need a wake up call.Thank you Chris Hughton.

And well done to Hoots for either ignoring or overcoming a lot of negative dross that was coming his way from some of our more fickle fans!

Yeah but why you need a new thread when there are multiple CH threads already?

Watched the match in a Baggies pub where I live in Stourbridge. I can safely say I was the only happy person in there. Pleased for Hughton who has known the side''s weakness all along and in fairness has already started putting a plan in place to address it – i.e. goals and RVW.It''s been a tough season but despite those handful of tonkings, we have been harder to beat for the most part than before and have competed in the vast majority of games – without a cutting edge, yes, but competed nonetheless, with plenty of draws and very narrow defeats. And remember, we''re 12th now, and could even go 10th if we were to surprise everyone, myself included, and win next week. This suggests there are a lot of teams closely matched and a lot of fans thinking "why aren''t we good enough" rather than "at least we''re just about good enough not to end the final day in the bottom three". Until we have very deep pockets or a massive mostly packed stadium we need to understand that competing, and surviving, with odd highlights (a cup run would be nice), is not total failure. Look at Lambert and don''t dismiss the idea that his brand of football at this club, this season, would very easily have seen us down. It hasn''t been pretty but Hughton, and most importantly NCFC, have prevailed.

Here, here!

Premier League status confirmed with style (unlike Newcastle!) and a FA Youth Cup final tonight. The future is exceptionally bright for Norwich City FC.

Whilst patience is still necessary, yesterday we had a brief but important glimpse in to the future. It was an important victory because it was done in a manner that proved to all doubters that we belong here.

Bring on Chelsea tonight. Win or lose, what an achievement by our young lads!

OTBC!

Thank you Chris.[/quote]err, that might make some sense if it was based on any form of realitysecond season syndrom is mostly an urban myth, the facts don''t really back itwe had to repay debt in the other season, clubs accounts will explain how much for both seasonshe was the manager when we lost 5-0 and the manager when we didn''t win for seven gamesas to resources he had replaced a number of previous players with players who went straight into the team

it should noted that our biggest victory in the PL sine 1993 was with 9 players who he had not signed and were playing a style of football familiar to them BEFORE he arrived -  maybe Man Utd fans might like to congratulate Moyse on helping their club to win the 2012/2013 title

Well done Moyes! At the same time a belated thank you to Bryan gunn for getting us out of league 1.

You dont need to debunk myths about second season syndrome to understand it was always going to be an effort to keep Norwich in the premier league this season, Hughtons done the job required and deserves the congratulations he''s currently getting.

The 5-0 loss and 7 game run without a win may well have come under him, but they are all part of a 38 game season in which we are 12th and safe with 1 game to go.

Now City 1st - I hate to debunk your sour pontification with anything as awkward as actual facts and evidence but here goes anyway. Read this and then try and argue that second season syndrome doesn''t exist.

Sorry, but by the same token if David Moyes wins the league next year but mainly with Fergusons signings (which of course if he does win they will be mainly Ferguson''s signings) he hasn''t won the league, Ferguson has?

I''m personally outraged that Hughton didn''t get rid of every player who had played under Lambert and replaced them with his own signings, after all our best players in Lambert''s first season were players like Hoolahan, Holt and Chris Martin and Lambert brought in all of them .......

actual facts eh ?

"41% of of teams are relegated in their first season after promotion"

"just under a quarter of teams who manage a 2nd season are then relegated in that season."

that doesn''t suggest any great variation and merely re-iterates my point that "second season syndrom is mostly an urban myth,"(note the word mostly)

"73% of teams drop down the league in their 2nd year"

Second season syndrome doesn''t just mean relegation, it refers to teams performing worse than the previous season, which the vast majority do.

No thanks, you get a four year old to read yours so it wouldn''t be fair.

How can you distinguish that in this one game at the END of the season after Lambert left the players are suddenly channeling the previous manager to gain victory, but there was no influence on this team by him in the preceding 36 results?

Congratulations City 1st on a desperate attempt to wriggle out of the evidence of the FACTS.

Now pay attention. We are talking about Norwich City here and Norwich City didn''t get relegated in their 1st season back in the Premier League.

As the link I posted clearly shows, 73% of teams who survive their first season do WORSE in their second season. That''s what Second Season Syndrome is.

By selectively misquoting one irrelevant fact from a very long, thorough and evidence based study study you are really just admitting that you were wrong in the first place.

As the old saying goes ''you are using statistics like a drunk man uses lamp posts - for support rather than illumination.''

I forgot to say, well done Hughton, achieved the aim for the season under severe pressure, for that he deserves praise.

Don''t put your feet up though, you''ve got a very very busy summer ahead!

This is the point that so many Hughton doubters miss.  The pressure to achieve results straight away in a club on limited resources with players he had little detailed knowledge of.      A difficult start (not unexpected) then a set of terrific results - and performances - in the run up to Christmas, that was fantastic.   That created a pressure in itself, as after the difficult period over Christmas and New Year we tried to recapture that form.     But the players responded and kept their discipline, keeping it tight and started to improve - good away performances at Sunderland/Arsenal, wins over Everton and Reading.

Yes, the premiership is always a pressure cooker, but the extra pressure Hughton was under was there for everyone to see - everyone that cared to look, that is.  So it should be a thank you to Chris Hughton, for the bravery he showed in sticking to his guns and for ultimately giving us a successful season, with the promise of better things to come.
