Linked on Twitter... decent name! Any truth?

I regularly get him in on fm which probably makes this less believable!

If people start a new thread everytime some kid links Norwich to a player it''s going to be a very long summer. Leave the twitter rumours on Twitter - or at least see if it has been said by at least more than one person (and doesn''t originate with a f***ing ITK account).

I''ve not the foggiest what this says. But it mentions us, and him.

Google Translate:

"Steven Defour is in the interest of Norwich City. The team, who all season fighting against relegation, would like to take the midfielder to England. Or Defour sense to play in a relegation team is still questionable.

Norwich City is now sure of retaining the Premier League after Wigan relegated yesterday after the 4-1 loss at Arsenal. Norwich will not even go through such a season, so looking for reinforcements. It came out at our compatriot, Steven Defour.

Defour currently plays in the Portuguese top club Porto. The 25-year-old midfielder is in his second season in Portugal, but has no basic place to enforce. Therefore, the ex-player Standard ears to another team, though perhaps expect the international interest of better teams than Norwich."

Heard about this a few days ago.

Just one of those players that is looking for a new club this summer, so inevitably we''re linked to him.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Jozy Altidore. He''d make a lot more sense, is looking to move this summer and Alkmaar only want about £4 million for him.

(I say ''only £4 million''... when did that become an insignificant amount of money?)

Jozy Altidore?    He was pretty average in the Hull side which got relegated from the premiership a couple of years ago.  We can aim much higher than him

At a cut price deal he''d be a decent squad player, but certainly not a priority target by any means.

That''s rather harsh on a 20 year old - as he was then.

So much pressure was placed on him to solve all Hull''s problems and he dealt with it, but the Premier League was a bit too soon for him then. This is disregarding the fact that Phil Brown is one of the worst managers I can think of and completely out of his depth.

Seriously, check him out now. He''s 23 and really growing in to himself. He isn''t quite the finished article - what 23 year old is? - but he''s a genuine talent and the poster boy of American Soccer.

Be a good buy, if we are interested.

There''s also this:

It''s basically just an unsubstantiated rumour (shock!).

How is some spotty kid posting on Twitter any different from some spotty kid putting it on Football.rumours.com?
Point is though, is that it did not come from twitter or footballrumours.
Original tweet from @latestfootnews was on May 13th, was then picked up by a blog in Portugal, and then by the press in Belgium.

So yes, it originally came from some random Twitter account.

There''s Bethnal again, ruining the forum by using his experience, reason, logic and facts.

Being a football fan is not about any of those things. The current crackpot theory making the rounds is that the only reason we won on Sunday is because the players ignored Hughton.

So, instead of pondering the fact that Hughton has not only lost the dressing room, but the players are doing precisely whatever the hell they want, or wondering how this has somehow escaped everybody in the local media''s attention or just acknowledging the fact that there is of course absolutely no evidence to back up this claim and that its based simply on the prejudices of some who want to give the Hoots no credit for anything... why don''t you just accept it?!

Leave your logic at the door, Bethnal. We don''t want it here.

Now I''m going to sleep.
Jozy Altidore?    He was pretty average in the Hull side which got relegated from the premiership a couple of years ago.  We can aim much higher than him
lmfaoYou would be incredibly stupid to think that nothing has changed in over 3 and a half years and to not bother checking his form since then. I''ll help you out..e He was just 20 when he went from Villareal (where he struggled to make an immediate impact after a record-breaking $10m move from the MLS and was thus loaned initially to Xerez where he suffered a minor injury and didn''t get a chance to prove himself) to Hull on loan. He was popular with the fans and had the physical attributes, but not the composure to bag plenty of goals. He then made the best decision of his career by agreeing to join AZ in the Eredivisie where they love to improve players technically. He scored 16 goals in 34 League games in his first season and 20 in all competitions. This season he finished with 23 goals in 31 League games, 8 goals in 6 Cup games and 31 goals in all competitions. He has 51 goals in 91 games in Holland and his career total is still an impressive 74 in 190 games. He had at least 3 hat-tricks this season and 3 braces. Considering AZ finished 10th he has done mightily well. An excerpt from an article about him:-

What finally clicked for Altidore in the Netherlands after he had

struggled to make an impact at Spain''s Villarreal and England''s Hull

City? To hear Earnie Stewart, the former U.S. World Cup forward who''s

now AZ''s director of soccer, instruction and patience were key.

"This is a country where young players are allowed to play and make a

lot of mistakes and learn from them," Stewart said. "In other countries,

if you go to Spain or Italy, the waiting time for young talent isn''t so

long. What we spoke about when we brought him to AZ was there''s a way

of playing as a center-forward here in Holland, and you understand what

you need to do within your role. He''s been fantastic at that."

For Altidore, that meant learning to do what he calls the little things:

Making the simple runs that needed to be made, getting himself in front

of the goal and working hard to connect with his teammates. What''s

more, just as a college basketball star needs the right situation to

succeed in the NBA, Altidore finally found the right club fit after

things hadn''t worked out elsewhere following his $10 million transfer to

Villarreal in 2008.

So he''s basically improved his composure and technique, he''s still only 23, is 6ft 1, strong and rapid. Plus his manager thinks he''ll leave this summer. The problem would be competition for his signature. He certainly worth a look at though. He''s obviously always had potential and is starting to realise it now

Next.

I think you''ll find RVW had a €20m + release clause mate, it doesn''t mean anything

In Portugal and Spain release clauses are a requirement for all players so all clubs have them set ridiculously high so that they don''t clubs don''t lose their players unless it''s for an astronomical fee.

Sporting were desperate for cash, we paid good money months before he became our player, hence the reduced overall fee.

Not the same situation, and even if it was Defour''s release clause is more than double RVW''s.

We''ve got a huge budget by our standards, but it''s not *that* huge.

Defour''s not been very good for Porto since his move and they''re bringing in new players for his position (Hector Herrera of Pachuca if you wanted to know)

Maybe''s it''s just a factor of Porto wanting to cut their losses and move on with Defour.

The main problem would probably be competition in all honesty. Man Utd wanted him and he''s a Belgian international, which everybody loves now! Saying that, Man Utd once wanted RvW so you never know. Also, he surely won''t cost more than he did for Porto as he''s not played much and they''ve already got new players in his position coming in. He won''t want to sit on the bench again and it''s widely recognised in Portugal that they can''t always keep hold of their players. The lure of the PL could be massive, but it depends on price and whether he''d want to join us over others. I just hope the signing of RvW shows other players we mean business. A win against Man City on Sunday would certainly help too!
