But indy, Martin had a few goals in the championship. he was given 3-4 games as sub appearances. and Hughtons hardly played jackson, so why would he continue to play vaughan?

not to mention, Jackson had Holt taking goals, Vaughan didn''t really have any competition, most of the goals that fell to a striker fell to Vaughan.
But indy, Martin had a few goals in the championship. he was given 3-4 games as sub appearances.
As if that''s anywhere near enough to judge a player on.If it had been 15 games or even 10 games you might have had a point, but it was just 4 and he wasn''t bad in them either, he just didn''t distuingish himself.
and Hughtons hardly played jackson?
How can you possibly say that 19 apps this season is hardly playing someone? He had chances last season - he was poor, he''s had chances this season - he''s been poor. After 35 apps in the top flight, it''s more than enough to see that he IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH...
not to mention, Jackson had Holt taking goals, Vaughan didn''t really have any competition, most of the goals that fell to a striker fell to Vaughan.
Are you kidding me???Now Holt is to blame for Jackson being unable to hit a cow''s backside with a banjo!Vaughan is FAR more clinical than Jackson is, and is better in pretty much every way apart from injury proneness. To clarify here, I''m not saying that Vaughan is the answer to our striker situation, I think it''ll be RVW, Becchio, New Striker/Holt, New Striker/Vaughan.It really does depend if Holt is moved on, because if so I think he''ll use Becchio as a replacement, sign someone new and keep Vaughan, whereas if Holt is staying, I think Vaughan will be sold. It may be that in fact we also don''t have the finances to buy another top striker, in which case if we stick with RVW, Holt and Becchio, I''d rather have Vaughan as fourth choice than Jackson...

I think that Vaughan should have a chance to compete for a place in the pre-season. He may not make it, and CH may bring another striker in, but he at least deserves the chance, IMO.
Oh no he doesn''t!

That pre season was last year - he was sent out after it, it has no relevance to decisions being made now
.

Of courae it has relevance, they were performances where we and Hughton could actually see his potential. He did very well and has continued that good form this season.

I can only assume he went out to see if he was up to a full season fitness wise, he has shown that he is,

Please all. James Vaughan is not the answer because he does not want to be here.

His wife to be did not settle here and wanted to move back up North, he will go to a high end Champ team, end of. It has been discussed on here time and time again.... no point considering him..
At his stage in his career you think he would take Championship football if he has a chance to play in the EPL?

saying apps is one thing, but how many minutes has he played in the league this season? there has been over 3300 minutes in our league season so far, with 90 more to come sunday. how many of those has jackson played?

it''s most likely around the 500 mark, if it even reaches there.

jackson will be off in the summer, and so will vaughan.

and if we have the resources to get better than players who are decent at championship level, why not?

it''s all very well saying "this player got x amount, why not this?" but that isn''t how it should go. jackson most likely stayed because he has a decent bill of health, and vaughan did not. If we had more options perhaps neither would of been here this season.

but next season, we will probably have enough strikers to not need either.

a 13 and 14 championship goal scorer is not what we need.

I think it would take something a bit more definitive than that to be convincing. Javier

a 13 and 14 championship goal scorer is not what we need.
I think you might be missing the point I was making JDT, in that Jackson has been given 35 apps (and however many minutes, approx 1353) to show what he can do at this level, and has shown that he isn''t good enough. His 13 goals in champ entitled him to an opportunity and I think it''s fair to say he''s had one.All I''m asking for is that Vaughan gets shown the same level of respect and fairness. He''s clearly not going to be first or even second choice striker, but as a squad option who we already have on contract I think he offers more than Jackson.Whether or not either of them will be here much longer remains to be seen, but my argument is that if we aren''t bringing in another top striker to play with RVW or similar, then Vaughan is a perfectly viable option as a 4th choice backup striker behind RVW, Holt and Becchio. I hope we do bring someone else of quality in, but if not then I hope Vaughan gets a fair chance even if it''s just a handful of games here and there where he can try to impress.

Futile argument really.

With one game left of the season Jackson will soon be out of contract and will have been able to talk to other clubs since January.

Vaughan has a couple of years left on his contract and so belongs to NCFC.

Essentially it''s not going to be about which, its going to only about if Hughton feels Vaughan should have a chance.

He is not as quick as Jackson but is certainly stronger and has better all round play.

This sentance is quite funny. It reads in Icelandic: You''re either faking or equal idiot.

Should probably be: Þú ert annaðhvort að falsa eða algjör fáviti.

Also, unless we can sign a couple more Dutchmen to go party with RvW, we should give Wes the honour. He''d show him how to get on it!!!

When Vaughan was 13 he did the 100m sprint in 11.5 seconds. He was the third quickest in the country then.

Vaughan is definitely quicker than Jackson.

Jackson isn''t as quick as some people make out in my opinion. Of course he''s pretty quick, but many a time he''s struggled to beat a not all that fast CB. Obviously other factors come into it, but he doesn''t have that raw pace that even Elliot Bennett has. Jackson''s best speed attribute in my opinion is he can keep the ball under control fairly well at a decent speed. Which is why he''s a speedy player, not because of his pure pace.

My prediction is we will be going 4-3-3 if we get in the right players. Probably with a bit of a variation so not a strict 4-3-3
--------------Ruddy-------------
Whittaker-Turner-Bassong-Garrido
----------Tettey-----------------
------Johnson--Howson---------
Snoddy---RVW-----Pilkington
Swap Snoddy and Pilks with the two apparent new left and right wing signings, out and out wingers. Swap Holt with RVW when needed.
I hope so anyway, I love the football that comes from playing 4-3-3 and would be really excited if Hughton shows ambition with that formation.
Well, that is what I''d for anyway.
